| Master Shadow Wolf08-24-03, 06:00 PM | Okay, the BBEG of my game is going to be a powerful wizard/fighter. The twist to him is that he has this obbsession with games like cards and dice. So what I would like is some ideas for personal guardians that fit that theme, and magical items that fit that theme. Note that the guardians should not be cartoonish. No walking playing cards please. |
| ClamsHaveFeeling08-24-03, 06:41 PM | Walking playing cards would be pretty cool IMHO. They could be immune to criticals, and would club you( Har, har. Get it? Club you?) You could make exploding dice, and maybe make bouncers that help him out. (Big burly guys, with low intelligence and high strength) If you want to give him some cohorts, these would be some good guys to throw in. (I don't know what lvl this guy is supposed to be though) Here you go, one of my own PrCs: The Gambler (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=57628&highlight=The+Gambler) Have fun :) |
| Rudigrrr08-24-03, 06:47 PM | there was an item that wotc came out with called the fist of emikrol that looks like a d20 with different symbols that when thrown at a ranged touch has different effects on the target, i cant remember the link but if u search the site u should be able to find it or let me know and i will email it to u, its pretty cool Rudi |

His Lt. might hold the title of "King of Spades" while his Sgt. might be the "Jack of Diamonds." They might each be assigned specific units of underlings, such as the "Ten of Clubs." Dress would be appropriate to the title, of course. If he's a spellcaster, his spells might also take the form of his games of chance. For instance, his magic missile might look like flaming dice. |
| Master Shadow Wolf08-24-03, 07:20 PM | These are some great ideas. You've given me a great idea. I want to make his "generals" as Fixxxer suggested. But Which cards should I use? Queens, kings, jacks, what? As for items, I was thinking more like, dice that summon monsters or something. |
| BladeVenom08-24-03, 07:28 PM | To go through the magicl portal to his lair, the players need to draw a card from a deck of many things. A deck of illusions is also a good magic item. A cube of force could always be dice. Shurikens that look like playing cards. Exploding caltrops that look like dice. He could be gaurded by mimics that look like giant dice. |

But Which cards should I use? Queens, kings, jacks, what? If I were doing it, I would label the generals as Kings and Queens (no difference in rank...just a male/female thing). The officers in charge of regiments would be Jacks. The regiments themselves would be broken down into individual squads that represent their own numbers (such as the Nine of Diamonds). Spies and other infiltrators would be labeled as Aces. For a further look into a possible rank structure, Diamonds could represent the more subtle soldiers (rogues and assassin types, perhaps), Clubs could represent the offensive toughs, Spades could represent the guards or defenders and Hearts could represent the spellcaster ranks. Example: The Jack of Diamonds gains intel from the Ace of Diamonds (who reports directly to him), which he organizes and takes before the Council of Cards (the Kings/Queens). The Council is empowered to make important decisions, but they report directly the the BBEG (who might style himself after the Joker...perhaps he's a bard?). The Council gives instructions to the Jack of Diamonds. His job is to select a soldier or unit of soldiers under his command to carry those instructions out. In this particular case, he decides that the job requires the special touch of the Five of Diamonds, which is an elite squad of five highly-trained assassins. He gives them their orders, which they carry out (or die trying). |

| Theocracity08-25-03, 11:02 AM | Deck of Many Things? :D I like the idea of chess-piece golems. Also, decks of illusions could provide good opposition (assuming they have a hard time spotting illusions). |
