Ok, so one of my players has honestly embraced one of my throwaway sub-plots, and is determined to stop one of the BBEG’s of the campaign from reaching godhood the best way he knows how, by beating him to it! He knows what it would take (The BBEG discovered a sort of loop hole in the universe that would allow for a relatively “easy” ascension to godhood, but would only work once, and is still going to take years to set up) and is willing to go the distance on this one.

My question is this: Assuming a) He is actually able to complete all of the steps and collect all the materials required (I give it about 35% chance,) b) I’m crazy enough to allow him to play the character again after the campaign gets to a sufficiently epic level (If he gets it he understands that the character will be retired.) what sort of level adjustment would you put on divine rank. Most likely Divine rank 0, but if he plays it out really well I wouldn’t be opposed to Divine rank 1.

I think its a cool idea for a story. I don't really agree with assigning a LA to divine rank though. I think If you want the character to be played again in an epic scenario you could arbitrarily assign one if you like. If it were me, I would give the player chances to role-play the character again but limit the activities in the adventures and downright end them once divine rank 1 is reached. Alternatively you might say that the more potent benefits of divine rank be suspended by the more potent gods should the PC decide he needs to have an active role in the affairs of mortals.

When your PCs become deities, its time for them to retire.

QFT.

I'd suggest something large and ungainly until you can fine-tune it. Something like +7 to +10. As you see how it affects his power level you can lower it if you set it higher than you think it should be.

See what I'm saying?
