Then, in addition to that:

Toss in some "slaves" (willing or otherwise) that carry/use stuff for it.

06-20-07, 07:04 PM If you have access to it all of these ideas are covered in Lords of Madness. An excellent book (also covering Aboleths, Illithids, Neogi, those beaked brain thingies, and some more besides.)

Another idea presented there is weapons (swords and so on) that have a mouthpiece instead of a hilt. The beholder clamps down on it with its teeth and wields the weapon that way. Now, that said, I don't know WHY a beholder would use a sword...but maybe they just get bored or something.

edit: Oh yeah, because they like to 'look at' magic items to absorb their power, a beholder might have lots of stuff in its lair even if it can't actually use the items itself.

Also, what about glasses? Couldn't they wear Goggles of Night Vision together with Eyes of Charming (pointless, I know...), Eyes of the Eagle and Goggles of Minute Seeing? Also, masks count as filling the same slot as a pair of lenses...

Not a bad idea, actually; remember the replacable magic teeth of Morte from Planescape: Torment? Some false fangs, enchanted like a weapon, could work.

Oh lord Krang, each time you make a bigger construct suit and each time the turtles defeat you, won't you ever learn? Now where are Bebop and Rocksteady so that I might send them to perform a simple task which they will no doubt fail miserably ...

06-22-07, 10:33 AM On the same principle of the mouthpiece weapons (Which I believe was statted up somewhere, Dungeon I think), wands and staffs could be held in the mouth to be used. I also think that maybe a beholder could wrap a belt somewhere around itsself.
