For my current campaign, one of my BBEGs will be a beholder lich from the Abyss. I know this is tweaking the rules a little bit. What are some of the powers a beholder lich could have? I've already swapped out some of its eye rays (like enervation instead of sleep). Ideas?

Are you intending for this to be a completely new race altogether? I mean, are you taking the beholder and adding the lich template from the Monster Manual or are you making a completely new race out of this, like the Mind Flayer Vampire from Lords of Madness?

Dont bother switching out any of the eye rays, just make the beholder a Beholder Mage (Lords of Madness), then add the Lich template. Simple.

Bah!

Can the transparency rules.

Make it a Beholder Psion.

And watch it eat your PCs for breakfast...

Do liches even have eyes? I thought they lost their tender fleshy bits.

Heres a better question, how do you craft a phylactery without hands?

How DO beholders get around in life without appendages? They can be stopped by a doorknob!

lol, well he could just disintegrate the door,or u could give him telekinesis.

ranged harm would be very good, it would give the pc a good shock when he heals himselfs(harm) and drops one for them to 1d4 hp (harm again) :)

How about something like this...

Corrupting Gaze (Su): A ghost can blast living beings with a glance, at a range of up to 30 feet. Creatures that meet the ghost’s gaze must succeed on a Fortitude save or take 2d10 points of damage and 1d4 points of Charisma damage.

This is from the ghost template, but it seems to make sense for a beholder. In fact, why not add the ghost template instead of the lich template (the ghost template can be applied to aberrations, while the lich template cannot). ;)

They use their telekenesis ray of course.

...he ghost template can be applied to aberrations, while the lich template cannot...

Or just slap the Lich template on the Beholder and go to town. Give it a new name and bingo a new creature. There are examples of "lich-like" aberrations. Take the Alhoon for example. And since the Alhoon keeps it's little tentacle mouth of death I would be all for keeping the eye-stalks on the beholder.

I think I've found my BBEG for my next campaign arc here....

Lords of Madness has something called a Mouthpick weapon... +1 equivalent weapon ability, can be wielded in the mouth of any creature with a Bite attack.

It's not a whole new race. This is supposed to be a BBEG in my empire of undead campaign. Here's a little more info. The beholder has an onyx gem where his big eye would be. This has some magical powers, for example he can make touch attacks at range (to use the lich's paralysis attack) he also has a crown on his head to make up for not having eye stalks. His eye rays come through this crown. I'm actually using the "dread lich" template from the Advanced Bestiary from Green Ronin Publishing, so it's a little different, not to mention more flexible. The corrupting gaze would be great against my charisma-based favored soul :D
Also, in addition to beholder hit dice, this one is a lv 15 sorc. Thanks for the advice. Keep it coming

Not if they apply some Unguent of Timelessness.

I got Lords of Madness today. The Beholder Mage is a fantastic class, so my beholder lich will be a Beholder Mage too. Spells as a freakin free action! Come on
