| dafrca09-09-03, 07:36 PM | Just a minor little rant. I wish that every time a person felt like complaining about their DM they had to run at least 10 games before posting how bad the DM is. So many times I have seen someone just assume it is easy to be the DM. They talk like it should be a no brainer. Some of the worst players I know will tell you how bad their DMs are. Being DM is not easy and in some cases brings little respect. If you have not tried to run a game, be careful how judgemental you are. You might not be any better then your DM. Sorry, had to say something. dafrca |

| Donnavin Snowolf09-09-03, 09:42 PM | Three cheers to that. My players do some of the most unpredictable (yet entirely logical) things. How do you deal with a player, who upon meeting your Mutated Gelatinious cube, that sime splits when is hacked up, tries to put it in a jar and train it as a pet!? Bloody wizards think they can train anything. |

It is a very fine line between railroading and letting your players get to the game that you have prepared, among a thousand other things. On the other hand, sometimes players just need to vent. If a player does not get some enjoyment out of playing with a certain DM, then he ought not to play under that DM. Venting about a frustrating night once in a long while is fine, but consistantly having the need to complain about a DM probably means that the player needs a new DM. |

Funny how some love to complain until I say, "OK I'll let you DM for a while" and then they "love" me. But I was thinking of all those who post here on these boards. I see so many "My DM sucks" threads, but I see very few of those people willing to Dm when it is suggested to them. dafrca |

Now that I have put my time in behind the screen, I understand why previous campaigns worked out the way they did. Of course, now I find myself always thinking, "If I were a PC I would/wouldn't have done that". I guess it just goes to show you that it's easier to critique someone else's work than to do the work yourself. |
