| DarkJedi2612-06-04, 11:37 AM | I'm getting ready to start a new campaign and was looking for suggestions for what the best full run (levels x-20) campaign module would be. I've been looking at running Worlds largets dungeon, city of the spider queen, the WOTC module series but am not sure yet. Any suggestions? |
| Jiro12-06-04, 11:48 AM | I am about 2/3 of the way through the Return to the Temple of Elemental Evil and my gang has been enjoying it. It is a dungeon hack and slash which isn't for everybody. Levels 4-14 The series starting with The Sunless Citideal (sp?) is a series of modules that take players from 1-20. The first three were fun when I ran them and the others look interesting. The group took a break before I could run them all. |
| kardock12-06-04, 01:04 PM | i'm currently running city of the spider queen and it is a great module so far. lots of devils, demon and magicla beasts! and you should have seen the faces of the players the first time i mentionned "DROW". |
| Dryder12-06-04, 01:27 PM | Maybe a bit hard to come by, but the Adventure Path series from Dungeon magazine ist cool! Brings you direct from level 1 to 20! You might want to have a look here (http://paizo.com/dungeon/products/issues/shackledCity) Have fun! |
| Dragonspirit12-06-04, 02:43 PM | My players recommend Castle Maure  |
| evangelion101012-06-04, 05:01 PM | I tried playing return to the temple of elemental evil, but its not the easiest thing in the world to DM. Basically if you play it, allow for liberal stat generation 40-ish point buy, or 4d6 at least...use the at least 1/2 hit die rule. I'm not saying it can't be fun, but you don't want to run it with inexperianced players. They'll die, they'll get bored with the dungeon, overwhelmed by the sheer size of it all, etc. I know only because i tried to, and it requires a good deal of organization from the DM as well, remembering all the names and such. But you sound like you have experiance, so go nuts. |
| masterofmayhem12-06-04, 10:13 PM | My players recommend Castle Maure  Yes, I also heartily reccomend this one. IF YOU WANT YOUR PLAYERS TO LOATHE THE VERY GROUND YOU WALK UPON AND CURSE THE VERY AIR YOU BREATHE! :fight!: :fight!: :fight!: :fight!: :fight!: :hoppingma :hoppingma :headexplo :censored: :censored: :banghead: |
| Dragonspirit12-06-04, 10:24 PM | Gygax! Gygax! Gygax! Say it with me now! Hip hip, hooray!!! Hip hip... :bounce: :pint: :pint: :pint: :tiphat: |
| masterofmayhem12-06-04, 10:36 PM | . . . My next character for Castle Maure is gonna be the son of a god. Who can regenerate. And causes indigestion and vomiting. ;) |
| TLomon12-06-04, 10:42 PM | My personal favorite to give a good groundwork of a campaign is B2: Keep on the Borderlands. I then usually expand to A1-4, G1-3, D1-3, and end with Q1. Yup, I am a classic at heart. Of course, my campaign is thoroughly developed now, and things have changed immensely. |
| Magnus02912-06-04, 11:02 PM | I know if have probally beaten this setting to death, but I like freeport. Starts with death in freeport and goes from there. Check it out. |
| KevlarKnight12-06-04, 11:14 PM | The coin series starts with The Root of All Evil. Can be addapted and is a hoot to DM. |
| MonkeyKing12-06-04, 11:30 PM | Im not actually a DM... prepares to make his point swiftly whist all the Evil DMs ponder over what to do with the foolish player who has dared to desecrate their sacred board, many of them drawing D20s :help: ...however, from a players perspective (and one who enjoys a diverse campaign) I often find that dungeon hacks can become monotonous with little or no opportunity for PC interaction. Return to the Temple of Elemental Evil (for me) teetered on the brink of tedium towards the higher level end. For this reason I cannot recommend the original Freeport trilogy highly enough. My group all unanimously agree that it was far and away the best campaign setting we had played in 3rd edition. You get a decent amount of roleplaying opprtunity throughout the campaign along with some challenging and refreshingly varied encounters that should keep any type of player contented. (you'd be forgiven for thinking I receive royalties for every copy sold...) realises he's taken far too long and the Evil DMs are already upon him... arrrggh the cold clawing greasy darkness... it burns :gah: |
| Dreaming_in_the_void12-07-04, 12:56 AM | realises he's taken far too long and the Evil DMs are already upon him... arrrggh the cold clawing greasy darkness... it burns :gah: Cold greasy darkness? Son, that's where we leave you players... look around, nothing but plush seating, free pizza, and sunshine. Think about it, if we make these worlds - and you plebian PC's get the ugly ones with the caves and dungeons and trolls and what not - what's left for us? Oh, right... there's a topic to this thread, yeah? As for my favorite module, still gotta go with ToEE. The first one I played in... and I'd play it again. I'd run it too if I had a copy. |
| MonkeyKing12-07-04, 03:49 AM | Cold greasy darkness? Son, that's where we leave you players... When I grow up, I want to be a fiendishly evil DM just like you, dad. |
| krichaiushii12-07-04, 06:24 AM | Though I've not played them, I am told that Banewarrens (http://www.montecook.com/cgi-bin/page.cgi?mpress_Bane) and the Vault of Larin Karr from Necromancer Games (http://www.necromancergames.com/products.html) are both excellent. |
| DeLoungeville12-07-04, 10:23 AM | I'll have to agree with Dreaming_in_the_void, the original Temple of Elemental Evil is awesome...made me hate Gygax and his instant no save i don't care if you are nearly a a god you die tactics but overall it was very memorable. Just make sure that you utilize the towns and don't turn it into a big ol' dungeon crawl, that gets booring after a while. BTW if you want some old pre 3rd stuff like the ToEE check out this site (http://www.svgames.com). They have most all of the old stuff downloadable for about 5 bucks. Its in PDF and completely legit (got the site from WotC). Dreaming_in_the_void if you really want to run ToEE, I know that have it for sure. I now own a copy of it and am awaiting a party foolish enough to attempt it. |
