| damixmastermike02-16-07, 11:18 AM | Please post what you play and/or what you think is the best music for combat and normal playing... Normal Play 1)Conan the Barbarian Soundtrack 2)Gladiator Soundtracks 3)Knights and Merchants Soundtrack (old computer game from Germany) 4)Random Classical Music, ussually Tchaikovsky Combat: I have a pwn mix... Smashing Pumpkins: Zero Blur: Song 2 Prodigy: Smack my B*&?h up Limb Bizkit: Nookie ---questionable choice--- Hans Zimmer: Gladiator sound track 1-9 (the battle of Carthige) Herbaliser: Generals Oasis: F*&?ing in the Bushes (by far their best song) Linkin ParK: Faint (live in Texas) RATM: Bulls on Parade Limb Bizkit: Break Stuff White Stripes: Blue Orchid System of a Down: Attack As a further digression, if you have not seen the music video for The Prodigy song listed, I highly recomend it. It's banned from nearly every music video channel in the world, wonder why... |
| calronmoonflower02-17-07, 03:42 PM | Try the Legend of Zelda soudtrack. I used to have it on my pc before my harddrive died. |
| sedqon02-17-07, 04:13 PM | Our group's found that the stuff that works best is usually drawn from instrumental game and movie soundtracks. the Final Fantasy Advent Children Soundtrack is a good place to start, as are the soundtracks for other fantasy games. My brother is usually in charge of running the music, and he has a whole host of three-song playlists he can queue up at a moment's notice depending on the situation. |
| Thor_axe_impaler02-17-07, 06:49 PM | I love to start off my sessions with the Dnd song: actually entitled "Dnd" by Steven Lynch Besides this I tend not to listen to music... my players would just fight over it any way, although I would like to try. |
| _SIN_02-17-07, 06:50 PM | Game music is pretty cool. I've got all the music from Resident Evil saga which is REALLY cool to scare the crap out of your players. So funny that they wait for everyone to get ready before going home - TOGETHER!! :hides: The famed FALLOUT rpg has some cool ambient sounds, excellent if your PCs are in areas of desolation. It really adds to the effect. I have got a copy of the OFFICIAL D&D soundtrack, but thought it was quite shite. Lucky I didn't get it 'OFFICIALLY', aye! ;) |
| thebestideaieverhad02-17-07, 08:26 PM | Recently when i got Sharn: City of Towers i started using the soundtrack that came with that. Its not the greatest, but my players all memorize certain parts and will sing along with the tribal screaming parts, and sometimes will find themselves humming the tuba lines. It definitely adds a sort of pathetic spice to the game. |
| roninwolf10902-17-07, 10:05 PM | I've said it before and I'll say it again: You can't have a big epic fight without The Duel of The Fates from episode 1. You just can't. It's also fun to play The Imperial March when introducing the BBEG. I also like The Lord of The Rings soundtracks. |
| Singer_of_the_Song02-18-07, 12:34 AM | The Italian Symphonic band Rhapsody. Later had to change their name to Rhapsody of Fire for copyright issues. They invented a whole fantasy world with nations and people where they set all their albums in. Because they are a mix of talented, virtuouso metal and classical, they are not really suitable for background music, but perfect music to listen to before or after a session, and during breaks. Really great stuff. |
| dungeonmasterblog02-21-07, 04:02 PM | Lord of the Rings soundtrack is one of the backgrounds I enjoy. Dungeon Master http://www.dungeonsdragonsblog.com |
| PenderGrass02-21-07, 04:48 PM | The Resident Evil soundtrack is the best D&D music. The game should also have the same quantity of PC death as the movie. Just to, you know, complete the mood. :dragon: **** |
| krichaiushii02-21-07, 05:47 PM | Manowar (http://www.manowar.com/) Kills! Not all songs, just many. Metal band, but read the lyrics for an idea of what they are about. |
| Evil DM Mk302-21-07, 06:00 PM | We just finished an abyss dive set to the croonings of Ramnsteing, LedZep, Mannowar and a little Wizards and Deamons. Not ideal for every DnD champain, but this was special. |
| Singer_of_the_Song02-21-07, 06:00 PM | We just finished an abyss dive set to the croonings of Ramnsteing, LedZep, Mannowar and a little Wizards and Deamons. Not ideal for every DnD champain, but this was special. Demons & Wizards!! So good!! |
| darkneolink02-21-07, 07:51 PM | a little bit of the old Beethoven (the composer not the dog) works pretty well Go for clasics they're the best as they get If you are a hispano parlanate you might like the group mago de oz |
| Pallin Rahl02-21-07, 07:56 PM | Many of the ones already mentioned are great... ...add to the list (per my personal pref): Within Temptation and Nightwish. ;) |
| PHDrillSergeant02-22-07, 12:05 AM | I generally recommend The Elder Scrolls:Morrowind - The Original Soundtrack. - I'm still here. |
| Roivas02-22-07, 01:34 AM | Overland travel/huge monsters:Shadow of the Colossus soundtrack Creepy dungeon music: Silent Hill [the games] soundtracks Battle music: Otep, Soilwork, Mushroomhead, Arch Enemy, Behemoth ect... Puzzle Music: Jeopardy music Villians tend to get their own songs for their particular mood they bring to the game. But maybe I take too much care in selecting mood music for game. |
| Fend02-22-07, 01:45 AM | Download the Baldurs gate and Baldurs Gate shadows of amn and Throne of bhaal sound tracks :) The pub music livens up tavern scenes. Others are good for entering town districts to bring across a flavor. or simply just tripping through the country side. Not to mention the Combat music is Jaunty as hell O.o tho Conan you cant go past for nice epic music. indeedy. |
| inthesto02-22-07, 01:47 AM | Dragonforce, all day, every day. Your players can't complain about fudged rolls when they're too busy wondering if they're going to go deaf. |
| ballonger02-22-07, 04:39 AM | I bought this cd and it has quite a few nice tracks: Midnight Syndicate (http://allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=10:6pkmu32aan5k) |
| Zoycitenega02-22-07, 10:58 AM | I don't tend to use music for D&D, except when I give my dragon theme songs. Those tend to come from either anime soundtracks or Nightwish/Within Temptation. |
| Tetujin02-22-07, 11:27 AM | I'm totally with the previous posters on Fallout and Conan. We also use some Black Mages, some OC Remixes, and since we're running through Age of Worms we're playing some stuff by Kyuss (The band is actually named after the Demigod, for those not in the know). |
| d2447866702-22-07, 11:45 AM | Villians tend to get their own songs for their particular mood they bring to the game. But maybe I take too much care in selecting mood music for game. That reminds me; this one time, I had a vampire bbeg who the players repeatedly called gay. The next time they saw him, he was in an evil lair, and "It's Raining Men" came on. The effect was complete with the Lord of Blades, his man-wife, dancing the robot, with all his warforged doing the same. |
| damixmastermike02-23-07, 11:52 AM | Thanks for all the advice, we always have music playing, and a lot of the creepy dungeon music tips were really good. Thanks again to everyone who posted. |
| Mock2602-23-07, 02:14 PM | Glass Hammer. I would highly recommend their Middle Earth Album, especially the song Dwarf and Orc. |
| Olskool02-23-07, 03:56 PM | Dead Prez, M.O.P., and Ghostface Killah. |
| Ryusage02-23-07, 04:42 PM | DragonForce is incredibly awesome in combat. |
