Well, with the death of the party's Swashbuckler to an Assassin's Death Attack and the Favored Soul player leaving, I've now got the following party makeup:

All level 6.

Psion (Shaper), despite being a Shaper most of his powers are damage spells of various types.

Wizard, again, high on the nuking spells, going into Elemental Savant.

Monk, only a 10 con, so he's got few hit points, but his flying kick charges and his grapples can be tough, but not too extreme in the damage department.

Swordsage, mostly uses Desert Wind and Shadow Hand maneuvers.

It's a city based campaign, so most enemies will either be classed humanoids or types of monsters that frequent classic "Wizard Towers". So would you recommend meatshields with lots of hit points, essentially counteracting their damage with more hit points, and playing to their low hit points with low damage? Clearly, sending other glass cannons could result in initiative order deciding the combat.

Send in some barbarian. Watch the party make decent and well-thought battleplans. Make sure that the dumb illiterate meatchunks don't get a clue of the battleplan (but don't tell this as they don't want to look stupid), and as a result of their misunderstanding: charge every time, everywhere, despite what the original plan was.

Or use some paladins. Not only can they stop incoming melee critters, they can also help out when one of the critters breaks through and damages one of the mages. A cleric would do the same trick, but you'd have another primary (sp?) spellcaster around.
