As a DM I love giving my characters a wish. I probably get more excited than they do :).

This could be because when they use it I make them wish exclusively "in character" and therefore they cant say I would like +1 to this or an extra feat or wish for any magical item their character would likely not know about. I have DM'ed for my group for ages and they are great role players. They quickly learnt early on that if they made a wish like "I want my reflexes to be quicker" they would end up with +2 to their initiative or something other than exactly what they wanted. :evillaugh

Now they spend time thinking about something really interesting knowing that they will be rewarded if its cool for role play. And why not... it more often than not gives me plot hooks and ideas.

Recently I had a character (who had just acquired a tavern) wish for the recipe for a drink that will make him and his pub famous. He stipulated a few things like it had to taste good (ie not be famous for being the worst tasting drink) etc etc. I thought wow what a great wish. So I gave him the recipe which involved crushing the skull of some powerful undead (I forget a the moment) and adding it to the brewing process. Its amazing how eager PC's are to adventure for booze as opposed to saving the world :). Because he wasn’t trying to power game ill let it make him wealthy and famous in his area - which at the end of the day is better than most wishes so long as you get into the role play bit.

Anyone else have any great wishes in their games... id love to hear.

I once had a 20th level wizard wish to be better at hitting on women. I think I ended up giving him a charisma bonus. LOL

Several come to mind.

I had a priest of Set that kept a wish for almost two levels. When the DM had relaxed and almost forgotten I had it I whipped it out. We had traveled into the future (present) and I saw how enslaved people were to the functioning of the system, so I pulled out the wish ring and wished, "I wish that all these traffic lights in this country turn to green for a minute." I got major evil points... that character never got a wish again either.

I had a big dumb fighter that got a wish ring. The sarcastic rogue in the party told me, "Hey Brun, if I were you I'd wish for a five foot prick!"

Being the sport I complied by saying, "I wish my friend Rummy (don't ask me) had a five foot prick." And the player took it personally! Really what could I have done?

Different big fighter but not as dumb. He had a brother that was the roguish type but perpetually in a dour mood (same player as above). Being a loyal sibling when presented with a wish, he simply wish that his brother had a good day. So the dour thief ran the whole game session with a +10 luck modifer and had nothing to complain about... except having nothing to complaing about. But that was OOC.
