I'm thinking something that takes into account the spell duration. something like Spell Level * Caster Level * # of times it must be cast to be active for 24 hours. * some multiplier. any ideas? I'd like the formula to work with high level spells as well as the low level ones like enlarge person and mage armor that are "broken" under the current permanent item rules in the DMG. |
| zioth12-14-06, 04:35 PM | Let's try it, using the ever-popular 1000gp multiplier: Mage Armor: 1000 * SL1 * CL1 * 24 (1hr duration) = 24,000gp Cat's Grace: 1000 * SL2 * CL3 * 480 (3min duration) = 2,880,000gp Summon Monster 1: 1000 * SL1 * CL1 * 14400 (1 round duration) = 14,400,000gp -- which is, essentially, a really weak familiar for 14.4 million gold. A simple thing you can do is just change the duration factor used by the DMG, to something you think is more reasonable. Personally, I think the best method is for the DM to arbitrate, changing costs as necessary for balance. |
