| JohnJohn02-02-06, 12:34 PM | Yesterday while reading and answering a few posts here I saw an interesting discussion on NPC's and clicked a link in someones signature regarding NPC generator computer programs that help DMs. I went there and followed a link to another place to give a look see. While downloading/installing one my little virus cleaner thingie popped up. I figured hey, haha, some little virus just got killed trying to infect my computer... then read the window that promted up. It identified the virus but then said I was now infected, it hadn't blocked it like it normally did. Now I was puzzled and started looking into it. Long story short I spent a good 4 hours yesterday trying to track down and find a cure for this thing. I aint the most computer savy person out there so it probably woulda taken someone who really understood this stuff a lot less time. Anyways the virus was in fact a trojan. Its called "java.shinwow.BA" and is part of the "shinwow" family. Only way I could find to get rid of it was to find the infected file and delete it. Evidently it cant be removed by a virus cleaner (I know I tried using my own which was up to date and trying various websites that scan and clean a computer for free, all of em said I had it but they didn't do anything about it like kill it or quarrentine it). Anyways I know I got it from an NPC generator I just cant remember which one/where I was at at the time. So ya may want to update your virus protection while your thinking about it and be a little careful if this is some new bug starting to work its way around. |
