The evil legion is going to raise a big bad fire demon lord in a temple, now the pc's are going to try to stop it ( they wont succeed, storyline storyline ) but theyll have a big bad ass brawl with enemy forces ( that they will like )

So the set up is simple.. have a temple, an altar and on the altar have a few magicians that are summoning..

The magicians are protected by an antimagic field and a sort of force shield, the pc's cant reach them.. but there are some guards also that can reach the pc's ( the big brawl )

The question is.. what should i use on gaurds? mostly the legion for now is with goblins, orcs and ogre's... i want them to have a good fun brawl.. but i dont want them to cut to easily threw the enemy and the enemy threw them..

The pc's are a wizard, sorcerer, fighter, pally, rogue and a druid, all lvl 6..

Any suggestions for gaurds, items and tips..

The temple is simple... 2 rows of pillars on the sides and between them benches (like a standard church)..

Give the "bad ones" some class level and you'll be ok...
Some warriors
One cleric
One sorcerer
Then add some minor magic items to them (potions, scrolls, pearl of power 1st level, one magic shield, one magic weapon)

Add some "ranged weapon" enemies that focus their attention to stop the party caster using "readied action" against them. Poor equipe them so they're more a distraction than a real danger

Beware to not give them too much or you'll have a TPK, but class levels are always the simpliest way to power up enemies.
- More HP
- Better to hit modifier
- Some Spells
- Better saves

hrmm 3 spell casters. 2 fighters and 1 sneaky git (weak if you remove his chance to be a sneaky git tho)... hmm

Do you Want this to be an "Elite" Encounter? is this the Creme' of the Cults forces? Or is it just the Grunts.

If its the "creme" i would say Oger Elites

5 Ogers - in Black Spikey Masterworked Half Plate - With Large Masterworked Heavy Maces. Give 2 Heavy Flails (keeping a Blunt Glistening Black Beetle theme). And make the Last one a Cleric Level 5 With a Heavy Flail +1. To top it off instead of the usual 22 oger hit points, give them 38.

They have a high enough AC and Enough hit points not to go down in 2 and a half rounds. and the cleric Breaks up the number of Ogers in melee (4 - which should mean 1 to each fighter, another threatening a break thru and another chaseing after the rouge) While the Cleric sits at the back and hurls curses / Blesses the ogers / Bolsters the ogers.

give the Cleric a Wand of cure light and have him run about healing the ogers. (he has a big Reach so he can reach about and heal easy enough)

If this doesnt seem to be enough throw in some Meat Goblins. (have them run out of the Eves around the temple in groups of d4+2 if you want to keep fueling things)

Hope it runs ok.

Im thinkin about a 3 fighter/orc, sorcerer orc, cleric orc and then 2 orcs with bows and 2 orcs with a simple axe.. the fighter orc will be the elite on with the magical sword and shield.. making it hard to hit and do a bit of damage.. the bow orcs are the distraction, the cleric hides behind a pillar and helps and the sorcerer to..

They won't have a problem handling this i think..
