| Anodai05-12-07, 04:57 PM | I'm running a war-oriented campaign for 5 people: Warlock Barbarian Ranger Cleric Rogue/ranger They are accompanied by a substantially more powerful NPC combat oriented rogue/ranger. In real life the ranger and rogue are brothers. The cleric is my younger brother. The rogue is a nice guy who has some annoying personality flaws, ie: me and his brother are the only guys who don't want to wrap their fingers around his neck and squeeze. He joined the game in the 3rd session, when I thought the party would need a rogue, and knowing from experience that he would get picked on, I made him the in-game brother of the aforementioned NPC to keep him alive. Now the barbarian has began complaining that the relationship has given the PC Rogue/ranger too much power, even though the NPC rarely accompanies them into combat. I am wondering whether or not giving the Rogue/Ranger the NPC as a brother was a bad idea. Help dealing with the problem would be appriciated |

Just make sure you can explain why he is not fighting. It' spretty unrealistic if a guy that can mop the floor with the critters the PC's are fighting is not in the battle. Weellll, it's a give and take sort of thing. Having an in game brother would be a nice character tweak, but having that brother be super good and always willing to help is a bad thing. If the NPC is always helping the parties, maybe you should have him settle down in a small town so the PC's can pass him in level, then they would have to help him or something. Also, brothers don't always agree with each other, so have the NPC agree with the other people a few times. Just make sure it's balanced. BoN |
