I've always been led to believe that any legal assortment of spells and feats is already taken into account in the CR. There are some combinations that challenge this, so I'm asking here: 1) When fighting a Sorcerer/Wizard, does the Familiar have a CR (and XP award), or is it included as part of the CR of the Sorcerer/Wizard? 2) When fighting a Druid, does the Animal Companion have a CR (and XP award), or is it included as part of the CR of the Druid? 3) When fighting a caster that can summon, do the summoned creatures have a CR (and XP award) or are they included in the CR of the summoner? I'm almost certain that the summoned creatures are a part of the summoner's CR. 4) When fighting a caster with a called creature (such as with Planar Ally), does the called creature have a CR or is it part of the caller's CR? 5) When fighting a caster that uses Animate Dead and/or Create Undead, do the created undead have a CR, or are they a part of their creator's CR? 6) When fighting an opponent with Leadership, are the followers and cohort given their own CRs or are they a part of the leader's CR? My question is, what is the CR of this character: Human Cleric 12 1) Uses Animate Dead to create and control 24 Human Zombies (-1,200 gp from treasure) 2) Uses Create Undead to create 3 Ghasts (-600 gp from treasure) which are controlled by Rebuke Undead. 3) Uses Planar Ally to call a Barbed Devil to service (-12 x a variable amount from treasure). Called devil then attempts to summon 1d6 additional Barbed Devils with a 35% chance of success. 4) Has the Undead Leadership feat and attracts 30 Human Skeletons (followers), 3 Human Zombies (followers), and 1 Ghost - Human Cleric 5 (Cohort). Is all of this still a single CR 12 since everything is still a component of the Cleric? Jay |

Because you wouldn't give extra experience for a caster b/c he can cast finger of death, you shouldn't give extra because he used other powers to summon aid. That's by the RAW. However, I would say if a cleric has done all the things you indicate, and you feel he's now a greater challenge, such that your PCs deserve additional Exp., then go for it. |
