Could a Bladesinger be playable as a standard class? I'm attempting to make one and would like to know if anyone is more knowledgeable about them to help me out? Should they only be used as prestige class?

According to various sources, the Bladesinger will be a prestige class in the upcoming Complete Warrior by WOTC.

They are a prestige class in Tome and Blood, the revised one in its web enhancement, and the same revised one in Races of Faerūn.

The Bladesinger is an elven only presitge class thats in Races of Fariun or from the enchament for T&B. Its a bit difficult to get, you need 5 feats, +7 BAB (i think) and must be able to cast 1st lvl arcane spells.

tHe idea behind them is that they are elven champions - defenders of the race and all. In 2e, in the book of the elves, it says that to learn the bladesong style, it takes decades, even centuries to learn it, the persitge class sort of just ignored that, shame, kits in 2e made more sense for some classs (as bladesinger).

I disagree, Ka'loss.

The fact that becoming a bladesinger now actually takes time and learning in game makes it better fit its description.

Bladesinger's are prestigious and it makes sense that thye should be a prestige class - something which must be earned.

It's also one of the most optimized prestige classes available, and can be achieved by 6th level as a fighter 4/ bard or wizard 2.

Just start a character calling it a bladesinger until you can actually take the class.

I build bladesingers as Ranger5/Wizard5 then go into bladesinger - more fitting for an elf.....

Calling yourself one before the class is a way of getting round the whole time thing but its still not the same - thinking about, the easiest way to do it is to start high enough level to already have a lvl in Bladesinger.....

I'm a big believer that PrCs are just what your character's training to be (or at least can be.)

It says that the bladesong style takes decades to master... so what was he before that 10-year mark (assuming decades = decade)? A classless schmoe, despite the fact that he's had 9 years worth of combat/magic training?

No - he was a Fighter4-Wizard2. Makes a lot of sense to me.
