baneofkobolds 07-31-03, 09:01 PM	Ok so my players went to cut down a tree to get a LOG (see cult of LOG) and a Green Dragon (young adult) decide to fight them for harming the forest. After battling a bit the dragon burn (with acid breath) the crap out of the PCs but they didnt take enough to do death from massive damage or anything, the ranger used entangle but the dragon used command plants to end this, then the PCs blinded the dragon with arrows, then using entangle again got it stuck and the dragon can use command plant only 1/day which is bad for me since used it already. With the dragon entangled the psion used finger of fir to set the plants entangleing him on fire. So my question is what are possibilities for this? How much damage does fire do/round? How long before fire goes out? Chance of fire spreading in a pretty clear (not to many trees/plants but enough to entangle) to other plants? Please help me with this I'm in quite the jam.:(
Cindre2000 07-31-03, 10:43 PM	What fire. Try to burn some green vines sometime. It won't work. Plus, called shots are not good. The dragon should not be blind.
Dracoulis The Phyrexian 07-31-03, 11:22 PM	The plants entangling the dragon are on fire? The dragon will be able to break out of the entangle easier, then. The plants are on fire, and burning up, after all.
Wayward Son 08-01-03, 10:03 AM	I seem to recall dragons having Blindsense. The blindness is not a factor, even if you do allow precision shots in an abstract combat system :rolleyes: He just gets the miss chance on physical attacks for concealment. If the plants burn (as noted, wet, living plants are a pain to ignite and keep lit), I would make the damage somewhere in the 1d6 to 5d6 range, depending on coverage. That's consistant with fire damage from other mundane sources. Don't forget to deduct the Young Adult Green Dragon's Damage Reduction of 5/magic. Also, as noted, the entangling plants will quckly weaken as they burn. He should be able to break free with impunity. Do you know a Young Adult Green Dragon has a Spell Resistance of 19? Important to remember for any spells targetted at him directly. On a related note, do you realize this dragon casts spells as a 3rd level sorcerer? There's a few more weapons in it's arsenal. Why isn't this dragon flying? Dragons in general prefer to fight from the air when they are in open terrain, where they have the advantage. In all but the densest forests, a green dragon should have no trouble attacking from the air. A blast of its breath weapon, followed by a return swoop and claw attack, will drop most opponents. Also, I'll bet it's been far more than the 1d4 rounds that has to pass for the dragon to use his breath weapon again. Since he's immune to his own breath weapon (and acid damage in general), have him fill the area with caustic vapors while he disentangles himself. Vash Of Lost July 08-01-03, 10:09 AM	I agre called shots are cheap If you absolutly have to play out this situation, make it 2d6 per round, but after 2 rounds, the roots burn away, freeing the dragon
