Would a dragon's blindsense detect a creature whose type is Plant (ie a Shambling Mound)?

Blindsense
Other creatures have blindsense, a lesser ability that lets the creature notice things it cannot see, but without the precision of blindsight. The creature with blindsense usually does not need to make Spot or Listen checks to notice and locate creatures within range of its blindsense ability, provided that it has line of effect to that creature. Any opponent the creature cannot see has total concealment (50% miss chance) against the creature with blindsense, and the blindsensing creature still has the normal miss chance when attacking foes that have concealment. Visibility still affects the movement of a creature with blindsense. A creature with blindsense is still denied its Dexterity bonus to Armor Class against attacks from creatures it cannot see.

why wouldn't it? There's no mention made of a mechanism for its operation.

Well, if it detects a plant that happens to be mobile, what's keeping it from detecting plants that are rooted.

I suppose I'm wondering where to draw the line, or if a dragon would sense every blade of grass, etc.

Dragons do detect plants that are rooted.

Blindsense can only make up general shapes, not very detailed. Dragons feel that there is something thick next to them when standing next to a tree and notice that the ground is covered with something.

With blindsight you really detect every blade of grass.

But both blindsight and blindsense "see" everything which is not incorporal. there is no limitation on creatures.

There's your indicator for what is reasonable for Blindsense. Anything corporeal within the range of this ability that can be detected using Spot or Listen should also be detectable using Blindsense.
