| P33KAJ3W09-12-03, 12:50 PM | Ya I got the gist of CR... I think... Quick follow-up Is it reasonable to put the group in a difficult situation that is easily avoidable??? For instance placing some tough creatures in 5 feet of water but giving the party easy (even easier to TAKE than avoid!) access to 2 feet of water (giving them a huge upper hand (slowed movement but to shallow to swim) and other similar situations... (So is it ok to put them in a situation where they would have to WORK to make a bad/costly decision) - edit - BTW 1 @/\/\ 5o Fu663|\| 1337!!!!111 (P33KAJ3W = Peek, A Jew = I am jewish, and that is surprizing to most) |
| Zoticus09-13-03, 01:26 AM | keep in mind that if your baddies are in 5 feet of water and your pc's are in 2 feet of water that they have a height advantage as well as a speed advantage. With a height advantage comes circumstance bonuses to attack. |
| krichaiushii09-13-03, 07:08 AM | I imagine that certain oozes, slimes, molds, and fungi would be rather prevalent in such a damp area. Especially if the oozes travel IN the water. I will likely be misspelling this, but the ixitchactal - the evil, spell-using sentient manta ray-things from earlier editions could be fun. You'd have to run down a 3.x conversion, though. Water Naga can work as well. Giant electric eels. Aggressive, bloodthirsty, giant electric eels. As to an avoidable situation, let them find a rusty lever above ground, in an area with a deep, dark, spring-fed pool. Exploring the pool finds a clotted, fine mesh, iron grate in one wall, near the bottom of the pool. Pulling the lever opens the grate completely - allowing the eventual stranding of whatever lurks in the pool in shallow water. Pushing the lever into the full up position, however, opens the filling portion up full, filling the room to the lurker's advantage. |
