| Board_Rider12-21-04, 08:42 PM | Well despite the low turnout as far as votes are concerened here are the voted "winners" of each category and the "runner up". Thanks to Melpomene for "doing the bumpty dance" when needed. Here ya go. 1. Who is the best poster in giving advice? 5-way tie Pendergrass Shemeska the Marauder Fixxxer deadDMwaliking Dash Branaghan 2. Who is the poster with the most creative talent and ideas? Bartleby GOC Runner Up: Dash Branaghan 3. If you had a serious problem who would you hope to see post on your thread? Fixxxer Runner Up: Shemeska the Marauder 4. Most popular poster (most seen in among the boards)? EatFlan Runner Up: Fixxxer 5. Best Avatar..or most unusual. A few were mentioned but it seems everyone could care less. Thanks to those who did vote. |
| The_Dark_One12-21-04, 11:59 PM | It seems that people really like Fixxxer |
| Bringslite12-22-04, 12:32 AM | I did not vote because I haven't been here long enough to pick any favorites yet. I do enjoy the posts by all of these people and many more also. Keep up the good work and thank you all for your great insights! :) |
| Talanall12-23-04, 03:12 PM | It seems that people really like Fixxxer He's generally polite, even to people who're being rude (though extreme examples of rudeness can make his reserve slip). He's almost always helpful, even if that can only extend as far as pointing you to another thread or to a helpful resource. And his advice is practically always congruent with both the idea that DMs and players should treat each other like human beings instead of playing chips, and that a sound grasp of the rules as written is generally sufficient as answers for most problems. It helps that he also knows the rules pretty well, particularly in respect to the application of them to the practical problems of playing or running the game. So yeah, people like him. He sets a good example, and helps to make these boards a useful and pleasant place to visit, unlike those posters who spend the majority of their time calling people names, complaining about how much WotC sucks, or splattering the forums with lots of useless threads about this or that. His way of doing things is certainly better than the "I'll be a jackass to everybody I encounter online who disagrees with me, or who does something that I kinda dislike," breed of net citizen, which seems to be proliferating around here in the past few weeks. |
| Bringslite12-23-04, 03:17 PM | What's up with you guys? These people are all great posters. Do they not deserve congratulations? |
| Talanall12-23-04, 03:30 PM | Eh? Congratulations for doing what they're really supposed to be doing? No, sorry. I was explaining why it is that Fixxxer tends to make a good showing when popularity-contest threads show up. I'm not going to spend time stroking the hair of every good poster around here, though. As Chris Rock put it: "I take CARE of my kids!" ". . . . What do you want, a cookie? You're SUPPOSED to, you low-expectation-havin' m*****f*****!" The way to praise the good people is by imitating them. Show them respect in that way, and the boards would be a happier place. It's notably better than urging people to fall down some stairs, because if you're nice to people and try to be helpful, they leave feeling good, and pass that on. If you're a nasty little cuss to people, then they pass that on. I didn't vote on this issue because I don't really see a point in singling out the handful of especially good people on these boards. Better to try to be a good poster myself, no? If it really bugs you, you can go back to my previous post, take out Fixxxer's name, and insert whoever you like from the list. Except for a couple of notable exceptions on the "usually nice to people" part. |
| Ilium12-23-04, 03:32 PM | What's up with you guys? These people are all great posters. Do they not deserve congratulations? Huzzah! Congrats to the winners, better luck next time to the rest of us. :) |
| Board_Rider12-23-04, 03:42 PM | When I created this post in no way did I want to create a "popularity contest". If anything, Talanall, I was hoping that people may view these guys as a sorta "quasi-standard" and that would, as you say, want to make posters post such as these posters. I agree that posters should be cordial and polite...unfortunately you don't always get that on a public forum. By imitating or not (and just being naturally polite) then good. Plus it was just something fun and to be taken too seriously. There aren't any REAL winners because, well, they didn't win ANYTHING. Recognition? HA!! This was on the second page on the same day I posted it. Good Gaming All...Merry XMAS and all that. |
| Dash Branaghan12-23-04, 04:52 PM | This was on the second page on the same day I posted it. Well, you know the remedy for that, right? Make it the 101/1001 Best Posters Thread. :D Dash |
| Bringslite12-23-04, 05:07 PM | I didn't vote on this issue because I don't really see a point in singling out the handful of especially good people on these boards. Better to try to be a good poster myself, no? If it really bugs you, you can go back to my previous post, take out Fixxxer's name, and insert whoever you like from the list. Except for a couple of notable exceptions on the "usually nice to people" part I think it is totally possible go a little bit out of my way to recognize these posters and still practice my own posting. I also recognize that these are not the only good posters on this board. It is true however, that (this time) these people were acknowledged by thier fellow board members. I apologize. I never meant to single you out to congratulate these people. Especially since you don't seem to be up to it today. |
| Talanall12-23-04, 09:56 PM | Odd that I'm getting dog-piled for saying what I've said, except by the people who're the subject of praise from this thread. Maybe the fact that those folks are ignoring me instead of snarling at me is a good explanation of why they're listed, no? But if it offends other posters that much, I'll stop. There's really no need to get up in arms about it, folks. I was merely expressing dissent with what I took to be the intent of the thread, and it wasn't with the object of detracting from the good feeling that exists on these boards towards the people listed in the original post. I merely wished to suggest that emulating them is probably a more effective means of paying them tribute than doing the virtual equivalent of sending them a card and forgetting about it. I'll keep quiet now. |
| e-z0r12-23-04, 11:34 PM | *whith a shaky, frail, dispelieving voice* What? I didn't win? This is not what was supposed to happen! This is not what was promised to me! |
| Vaalingrade Ashland12-24-04, 02:15 AM | Seems that the fact that this board is now so inconvenient for me to get to that I rarely post to it has harmed my standing amoung my fellow DMs. |
| Iron Chef Vastrox12-24-04, 02:22 AM | What? I didn't win? This is not what was supposed to happen! This is not what was promised to me! No, it's just that Fixxxer has such soft hands, and on nights when you lay awake sad, he whispers how pretty you are. |
| e-z0r12-24-04, 10:25 AM | When.. I'm awake? He whispers how.. pretty I am? Or is it you who is pretty and I'm the one lying? Or were they all just lies? How could that be? |
| enailis12-24-04, 10:31 AM | EatFlan beat Fixxxer.... that's crazy.... |
| Count Arioch the 28th12-25-04, 03:43 PM | And I didn't even get on the list. Better step up my flaming, condescension, and hatred. :P |
