| khyron114412-14-03, 06:59 PM | here (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=144626&perpage=30&pagenumber=1) That thread proves that too many people are too attached to their PCs and can't take a joke. Maybe we need to institute a bonk sytem like in Teenagers From Outerspace, so there's no permanent PC death. Or maybe we need to take a break from D&D and play TFO, so we have a little perspective on this silly little game. What do you think? |
| GoodTeletubby12-14-03, 08:13 PM | bonk, isn't that usually the sound of a large d20 hitting a disruptive player's head? the situation varies from PC to PC, if your PC would take something such as this as a joke, than he should similarly, if your PC would kill someone for doing this as a joke, again, he should, though that's really not reccomended it's how the PC should react, not how the player reacts that should matter |
| khyron114412-14-03, 08:26 PM | Bonk is the TFO equivalent of HP, except when your bonk hits 0, you spend a number of rounds out of the action as your normal bonk rating, but you don't die, ever. |
| Felonious Monk12-14-03, 11:42 PM | Funniest. Game. Ever. I think it's still up in my attic or somewhere... The next time our campaign gets too serious... IIRC, there was a list of things that caused bonk, either physical (Zap rays) or mental (a really cutting remark, the book says). And one of them was Caught Kissing the Vice Principal's Daughter (infinite). One of my players argued that that meant you could be killed in TFOS. He was... well, not a munchkin so much as a loophole ninja, eager to find the one broken rule in a game and exploit it. It never came up in actual play, anyway. I use quite a lot of subdual damage in my campaign right now... fistfights, 'arrests', stuff like that. Really irritates a couple of them - not being able to justify drawing a weapon. |
| True Balance12-15-03, 02:58 AM | when i first read the post i thought it was someone wanting to convert the bonk game from the turbo grafics 16 into a d20 game. if no one remembers the game system, bonk was its mascot. probably the most forgotten game mascot ever. on topic, i would agree with other dude. i would look at the characters personality over my personal feelings. perfect example is a fighter type i play now. he is very physically powerful but easy going, friendly if somewhat rude and unmannerd. other npc's initial reaction is usually a little negative. after some time they warm up. the example with him is when he saw a scantily clad, attractive female npc he didnt hesitate to grab a handful. doing so got him backhanded to the ground. my characters reaction was to simply pick himself up, dust off, adjust his chin and give a devious grin. this actually called for a littly DM reading. when i got slapped to the ground i knew this was a pet character of the DM, probably an old PC. i did not take it personal but i think the DM did a little. i just played it off like the prank it was and later i sure enough found out that it was the DMs old PC character. i would have surely died one way or the other if i took it personal and attacked the npc. of course their is a line between letting one play pranks on your character and letting one abuse your character. players that do that are going out of character as much as someone who takes offense to anyone goofing on theirs. if someone is not a kender or is always playing the pranks on the same character then its usually because they feel they would have no trouble mopping them up in any combat situation should it occur. i would bet that if pranks were to begin to be played on these type people you would see them start casting offensive spells or swing their weapon towards anyone else doing it to them. next time anyone is the subject of a prank pay the prank back and see what reaction you get. |
