Bonus xp for filling out a questionnaire? [Archive] - Wizards Community

If I ask my players how the group (and campaign) is doing, I'm likely to get a good reply, however, it doesn't really tell me anything, and if I just email a questionnaire I doubt most of them would fill it out.

However, if I throw in a couple hundred bonus xp, I'm sure I can get everyone to fill it out. Now, at first this seems like this would be cheating, after all, the character did nothing to earn this. However, honest feedback will do nothing but help the campaign and increase fun for everyone, so it seems the positives outweigh the negatives.

Is this a bad idea?
What would be some good questions to ask? I want it to be short, but I want to get information necessary to gauge my campaign.

I was thinking of the following:

1) Is character progession adequate?
(we level too slow, leveling is just right, we level too fast)

2) Would you like to see more roleplaying opportunities, or more combat?
(more roleplaying, level is just right, more combat)

3) This is a low/medium magic campaign. How do you feel your treasure is appropriate for your level?
(we have not enough loot for our level, just right, we have too much loot)

4) Are the encounters an appropriate challenge for the party?
(too easy, just right, too tough!)

5) What would you like to see more of?

6) What would you like to see less of?

7) If there is one thing that I could change to enhance the campaign, what would that be?

8) Do you feel like your character receives adequate spotlight?
(too little, just right, too much)

Throwing in free xp is a great idea. As DM, you are supposed to be under total control of XP anyways, and it's up to you what sort of xp you wanna give.

As for the questions, I think #5/6 and #7 would overlap each other. If you feel it is too long, take either question(s) out.

And it also may be best if you give the questionnaire out to the players in person, perhaps during snack break or something, so they could ask you questions more quickly and you get answers more quickly than with using e-mail.
