| jokey66504-19-08, 12:44 AM | Then it's +3 to both. You only take the highest number. |
| MrCustomer04-19-08, 01:08 AM | to quote the rule, page 122 of the Players handbook under Masterwork Weapons. The enhancement bonus of masterworked ammunition does not stack with any enhancement bonus of the projectile weapon firing it or on page 221 of the DM Guide, under Ranged Weapons and Ammunition The enhancement bonus from a ranged weapon does not stack with the enhancement bonus from ammunition. Only the higher of the two enhancement bonuses applies |
| pedro211204-19-08, 01:18 AM | OK Arrow +1 Bow +2 what is the Attack bonus what is the Damage bonus + 2 to both |
| Aberzanzorax04-19-08, 03:19 PM | I'm pretty sure that in 3.0 you added the bow plusses and arrow plusses. In 3.5 you just take the better of the two. |
| darkfenrir04-20-08, 12:44 AM | I'm pretty sure that in 3.0 you added the bow plusses and arrow plusses. In 3.5 you just take the better of the two. Yup yup |
| Cranewings04-20-08, 01:38 AM | Then why have magical arrows and a magical bow? It seems like there should be a reason to have both. |
| MrCustomer04-20-08, 01:49 AM | Then why have magical arrows and a magical bow? It seems like there should be a reason to have both. Because the same bonus attack and damage don't stack, but different bonuses do. It's the same premise to how magical enhancements stack for other items, Bracers of armor don't stack with rings of protection, but Amulets of Natural armor do because it is a different bonus. The magic used for a +2 Arrow and a +2 Bow is the same spell so they don't stack, just as having two different wizards cast Mage armor on one person doesn't stack. For example a Mighty Bow adds Str Damage, this would stack with a magical enhancement to the arrow as well. One is a Magic enhancement, the other is a Str enhancement and so they stack. Also Magic arrows could have say an energy effect, such as +1d6 fire or +1d6 lightning, this would stack with a +2 damage bow. |
| Cranewings04-20-08, 01:56 AM | Mr. Customer. That makes sense. Sense wizards don't makes arrows without a good reason, wouldn't they go out of their way to make the arrows actually different than the bow so that it can stack? I'm just saying that a wizard wouldn't be inclined to waste his time, making useless arrows. |
| MrCustomer04-20-08, 02:33 AM | Well yes, a Wizard would likely make the arrows different. But then again, making magical ammo is considerably expensive considering it is an disposable item. So would a Wizard waste his time making ammo in the first place? magic ammo is destroyed if it hits the target and has a 50% chance of being destroyed when it misses. Just a +1 Magical bonus to arrows is 2,350gp (makes 50 arrows) that's 47 gp each shot you take. +2 is 8,350gp, +3 is 18,350gp etc. it's very costly. But even though it is costly it is sorta cheaper and tricky method of doing better. For instance a +2 Flaming Burst Bow (+4 enhancement total) would cost 32,000gp however a +2 bow costs 8,000gp and flaming burst (+2 enhancement) arrows cost 8,000gp, total 16,000gp. The downside of this is when you run out of ammo. |
| Cranewings04-20-08, 09:25 AM | Mr. Customer, I got it. Thanks. |
| ShaneWindby04-20-08, 09:49 AM | With an magical arrow you can overcome damagereduction magic, if you have a mundane bow to fire with. |
