| Marendithas_the_Necro08-07-05, 11:56 AM | Hello, i have enough bucks for buy a supplement and i seen the book of exalted deeds. My question is: is the book of vile darkness is good as the book of exalted deeds for prestige class, deities and so on? |
| Board_Rider08-07-05, 12:23 PM | I actually like the Book of Exalted deeds better. There are some things in there (read: Vow of Poverty) that can give a DM fits however. When I looked at the Book of Vile Darkness I thought that there was some good stuff in there for DMs to create some nasty things for the PCs enemies. So I would say if you want more stuff for the players get BoED, for you as a DM go for the other. I would recommend Complete Adventurer if you don't have that. |
| ChaosSaber08-07-05, 12:24 PM | The answer to your question really depends on what type of campaign you're running. I suggest you hop on over to the Mature forums (http://boards1.wizards.com/forumdisplay.php?f=14) and check out opinions from people who've used them. Note: To access the mature forums, you must have entered a birthdate in your profile, and must be of age. |
| Neo_Leviathan08-07-05, 12:25 PM | It depends on what you are looking for really. It does have some *very* funky stuff in it, especially if you want to add bits of very very dark stuff into your campaign. My beef with the book is that most of the PrC are "Disciple of ..." or "Thrall of ..." , and there is only one Spellcaster PrC. One big thing to remember is that BOVD is 3.0, not 3.5. |
| Sildatorak08-07-05, 01:07 PM | BoVD ranges from some very interesting things (alternative curses, a pretty decent chunk of new spells (though some should probably lose the [evil] descriptor), some details on the internal politics of Baator, and feats for modifying spell-like abilities) to some just plain stupid things (lichloved is the stupidest flavor for a feat ever). If you are looking for some dark stuff to add to your game, it could work. If you are just looking for more PrC's, feats, spells, and/or gear, I would recommend a book out of the Complete Series. Adventurer is probably the best one, then I'd have to put Warrior in second place. Divine and Arcane don't have much for non-casters, but CAd and CW have stuff that is useful for most any characters. |
| Marendithas_the_Necro08-07-05, 10:05 PM | I know, my friends gots the complete series, i have the CW and you're right the complete adventurer is the best. And the feat Leap Attack in that book for a good character. Think about it a Ronin with banzai charge : he add +10 on dmg and -10 on AC and he do leap attack and he substract -6 on attack rolls and +6 on dmg so x3 =18dmg 18+10 dmg =18 extra dmg! |
| TinManFan08-07-05, 11:53 PM | Lichloved is bad? BAH! It' the basis for my guy's pick up lins once he's done becoming one. "Hey baby, wanna qualify for a vile feat?" ;) |
| Sildatorak08-08-05, 12:37 AM | Lichloved is bad? BAH! It' the basis for my guy's pick up lins once he's done becoming one. "Hey baby, wanna qualify for a vile feat?" ;) Before you do that, read the feat very carefully. Not only do they have to be sex acts with undead...they have to be perverted sex acts with an undead! OH NOES! |
| Wizards_White_Knight08-08-05, 01:03 AM | Is there such thing as unperverted sexual acts with undead? Not that I want to know or anything. :P |
| High Octane08-08-05, 01:08 AM | Buy neither. Get the draconomicon or Libris Mortis instead. |
| Taladel08-08-05, 02:53 AM | Here's my suggestions. If you want your DM to beat you to death with your own PHB, buy Unearthed Arcana. BoVD and BoED aren't very good supplements as a whole, but BoVD has more nifty stuff for DM's. What to buy? I'd recommend the DMG II if you don't have it already, then the XPH. If you want setting stuff, pick up Stormwrack. It's incredible. |
| Lord Ian Stark08-08-05, 04:17 AM | Is there such thing as unperverted sexual acts with undead? Not that I want to know or anything. :P I would think one undead with another undead would be the only acceptable one. ;) |
| Lord Ian Stark08-08-05, 04:20 AM | Buy neither. Get the draconomicon or Libris Mortis instead. I second these two books. They've done wonders in my games. |
| Cantankerous08-08-05, 04:27 AM | Neither is a vital buy, but the BoED is very nearly broken, while the BoVD is just snide and silly. Isshia |
| Wizards_White_Knight08-08-05, 04:34 AM | I would think one undead with another undead would be the only acceptable one. ;) But only if they were both married. And to each other. :D And both of consenting age. *giggles* Oh now this is getting sad. |
| MarkB08-08-05, 07:00 AM | But only if they were both married. And to each other. :D And both of consenting age. *giggles* Oh now this is getting sad. The tricky part is finding a marriage vow which excludes the "Till death us do part" clause. |
| Lord Ian Stark08-08-05, 07:19 AM | The tricky part is finding a marriage vow which excludes the "Till death us do part" clause. From what I was told, if you're married you might as well be dead. ::looks around for wife:: Phew. :D |
| nyysjan08-08-05, 08:09 AM | hey, there is nothing wrong in messing around with a lady vampire (those girls can suck) :P |
| Eaglos08-08-05, 09:22 AM | Neither is a vital buy, but the BoED is very nearly broken, while the BoVD is just snide and silly. Isshia My thoughts exactly. For Vile Darkness I must add "childish approach". Have a look around for alternative products on those topics. |
