I think the history channel has a bunch of shows about various apocalypses and the aftermath thereof.

The novel "Lucifer's Hammer" by Larry Niven is an interesting, and well thought out, look at what can happen in a technological society when a comet strikes earth. I'm sure there is plenty of inspiration there for what can happen in a magical society.

Other than D20 Modern's Apocalypse sourcebook...

Books, try the Stand by Stephen King and Swan Song by Robery McCammon

I find that movies work better with a post apocalyptic setting. I can picture thngs during my descriptions and most plots (bad acting aside) work as session plots.

Try finding the following:

The Mad Max Series
Escape from New York
Universal Soldier (for the more military flavor)
Reign of Fire

There are a few more that I would suggest, but I can't remember the names

Not particularly a book, or source, just an idea, but there is a spell in the Book of Vile Darkness, titled "Apocalyspe From the Sky"

Pretty much, everything in a 10mile/lvl radius taked 10d6 fire, or acid, or sonic damage. so, at minimum, a 170 mile radius.

This spell affects everything. animals, trees, buildings, people, etc etc. No SR (I think)

Casting takes 1 day, and at the end the caster takes 4d6 Wis damage and 3d6 Con damage

Its nifty :D

My personal favorite source for anything Apocalyptic is the Liber Chaotica. Sure, it is Warhammer, but the book has great ideas for fluff and gets the ideas flowing. Every time I run into a writer's block for my games, I turn to it and read the 300+ page book with gusto and a box full of Cinnamon Graham Crackers. This strategy has yet to fail me.

Books, try the Stand by Stephen King

That book is FREAKING DISTURBING, i had nightmares for WEEKS
Stephan king is a great horror writer but he has some serious deep seated issues.

Elder Evils?

That works too. I forgot all about it!

Just steer clear of Dark Chaos Feat Shuffle if you allow that book.

King's Dark Tower series also has a lot of good Post-Apocalyptic stuff in it. It's sort of a post-modern sci-fi medieval western with ancient robots, crumbling, deserted cities, forgotten technology, vampires, mutants, sapient trains that can talk and riddle, metaphysics, sorcery, and all sorts of other good stuff.

Awesome, fantastic, GREAT movies. 12 Monkeys is another one, that provides more of a background inpiration for how the near-apocalypse came about (pure virus).
Also, not so much Apocalyptic, but Running Man and Total Recall provide endless inspiration for the more modern Sci-Fi kind of feel.

Always considered the 2.0 Dark Sun setting a more apocalyptic world considering it used to be a lush land till the Cleansing Wars and mass defiling.

For a more fantasish feel check out some Norse Mythology, Ragnarok is basically the apocolypse.

I believe the Elder Eddas are the relavent books, a translated version should be available on the net or in a bookstore. Unless you can read ancient scandinavian in which case you're good to go.
