| Rumpelstiltskin02-20-07, 07:41 PM | I have a small party (3) of players who want to play monsters. I'm looking for a way to beef them up a little, since savage species type monsters have low HD and low spellcasting powers, even if they take caster pc classes and despite higher ability scores, due to their ECL. Some thoughts would be: - Gestalt them. Would Monster + PC gestalt be monstrously (no pun intented) unbalanced with respect to normal gestalt characters? Should they only gestalt on the levels they get HD (just thought of this now, sounds more reasonable)? Once they complete their monster classes they can gestalt normally. - Allow some form of free LA. UA suggests giving free bloodline levels, perhaps something in the vein of free +3 LA might do it. Comments and extra ideas much appreaciated. |

I've tried this, it worked pretty well, but we were trying to balance monstrous PCs vs regular PCs. If you have all monstrous PCs then the free +3 LA should work also. Really, you just want to make sure everyone can contribute to the party. With only 3 PCs it might be best to just work individually with the players to balance the characters. Savage Species varies wildly in power levels between the different monsters, even though I like the book, some monsters are clearly more powerful than others. |
