Hello there fellow DM's i hope that your vast wisdom and knowledge and give me a second opinion on this combat issue.

To be honest i really do not know if this is a post i'd like to ask players as well, but at the moment i have come down from my exalted throne to let another player have a go at DMing, and he certainly has a good grasp of the rules; but due to my style of play this has effected my character to think some radical/reckless combat actions.

My charcter is a customised fighter class of my own design for a high powered campagin, which is ok with the new dm for this campagin,

Now my issue is this, the DM has thrown an epic fighter into the fray against my LV 18 Outsider/Humanoid Demon Fighter, which in my mind is well justified, and since the setting is within a large city with towers and large buildings. I though as part of one of the future epic battles, that i use the settings to my advantage and attack one of the high towers walls to then have fall on the poor human epic fighter.

Now i have a +5 Magic Weaon called a Talium Scythe, due to the nature of the class everything focuses with the weapon

The scythe does a huge 6d6+21 points of damage with a critical of 16-20/x4

Now how would you work out to actually destroy a supporting wall of a building or tower, and is it possible to do it in one blow. (the reason it must be one blow is that a full round action only allows 2 attacks for me and that it would most likely have to be be done with a flyby attack)

I have my own calculations, by looking at the DMG and some other books, but how would you deal with this.

Thanks guys i appeciate you looking at this.

Well to sunder a wall you'll have to hit it with your weapon, over come its hardness, and deal suffient damage to destroy it in one blow. This means dealing about 100 points of damage to it. Shouldn't be too difficult for an 18th level fighter to muster, however 6d6+21 unforchunately will not be suffient. You also can not crit on a wall, so you'll need another means to accomplish your goal.

Spells could work if you could get a spell storing weapon. Just remember that stone walls have resistance to certain types of energy damage. If your going that route you should err on the safe side and find a spell that will on avergae blast for 200 or more points of damage. Or use a force effect. Your best bet as far as spells are concerned is to employ earth quake, or simmiliar effect.

Hope this helper, cheers.

To be honest, you would need a VERY thin wall, and a critical to get it in one blow. A thin wall wouldn't give you the effect you are looking for anyhow, as it wouldn't have the "umph" or damage capalities of collapsing a supporting wall on the epic fighter. I think your wants are exceeding your grasp with this one. Without a high level spell to blast the wall apart, it's going to take your character a long time to work at the wall before it collapses.

Stone Shape the wall, use a big bomb, or have the incredible hulk get mad at it. I don't see one hit from your character dropping the wall, unless you have "planned" this.

By "planned" this I mean the character has sort of marked an "X" to where the wall will land and actually weakened the wall and even gone as far as to use some engineering knowledge on it. I would think if your character had some time to plan this then one flyby hit at the right spot would allow the wall to fall were you want it. :lightbulb

Now with that in mind, how do you get the DM to fall for this?:plotting:

I always find it best to surprise the DM with things like this. You will need to let him know that you have done these things, but not let him know why.?

Or if you do let him know why you are doing this, you will need a good reason for the epic fighter to stand on the “X”. ? :waits:

You could do the old bugs bunny trick and set up a table with some of his favorite food on it… :cookie:

Now the question is how much damage will this wall do? I an thinking that this is more for show than an actual damage thing. But to try and quess at the damage we will need more details on the size of this wall, i.e height, width and thickness.

Stone to flesh might have the desired effect.
I'd like to see a tower stand up supported by a pillar of beefy goodness.
