| Radijs12-10-05, 05:18 PM | I don't know if its commonplace but the party I'm DM-ing is having some trouble keeping together. As in they aren't that motivated to work together as a party. I've got a dwarven paladin of Moradin who's biggest reason for joining the party is to keep an eye on the dwarven fighter because he thinks the fighter constantly steals everything that isn't nailed down. Said fighter is indeed a thieving mongrel and a chaotic stupid one at that. The third one is a necromancer who slipped up recently by murdering the 4th party member(*) and has slipped into the evil alignment spectrum. The 4th party member played a wizard(*) and now temporarily uses a monk character until they finish the dungeon and will be introducing a warmage who will be in the ranks of the nations millitia as a scout. I don't know what kind of a person he/she will be playing. (*): The player wasn't enjoying his character so the death was rather painless. But what I'm looking for is something that will bring this party of misfits together, that will help them trust and rely on each other. Mentality PC1: Gotta keep an eye on that thief. Mentality PC2: Oooh shiny things! Gotta get it! Mentality PC3: I'm the greatest. The other PC's are just meatshields. Mentality PC4: Unknown. Probably very meek. |

| shadowrisae12-11-05, 03:20 PM | I can see the paladin not trusting the fighter, but why doesn't the paladin have a problem with the necromancer? Even if they hadn't killed the 4th party member, necromancers are nearly the mirror opposite of paladins. Paladins typically see undead things and related magic as very evil indeed. Unless this particular necromancer was somehow good (I don't know the details but seems doubtful if they killed a fellow party member), I personally think the paladin should have more problems with the necromancer being in the party than the fact that the fighter tries to steal everything. I don't agree with the poster who said not to allow evil characters. You can have them in a party as long as they are played well. However, some people simply can't play them well, wanting to be evil for the sole purpose of being able to kill random people, commit petty theft against their own party members, etc. |

| Dylan0212-11-05, 05:17 PM | I'm inclined to agree with shadowrisae, who makes some very valid points. Evil characters are an excellent role-playing opportunity, if played well. A necromancer and a paladin should have had a mutual cause to get them together in the first place. Perhaps that is what you need for the entire group, look at each characters strengths, then write an adventure that forces them to use each others skills in order to get through. They will need a common purpose to really force them together. Offer a reward that will benefit all the characters, something they could not get anywhere else, they will realise each others potential and value them as a party member. The only two you need to worry about are the paladin and the necromancer. Write a story line where either the paladin needs the necromancer to achieve some greater good, or the necromancer has a chance to save the paladins life. Hopefully the player will take the chance as a way to get the paladin to owe him one. But a common goal is the best way to get them working together. |
| tae'graciel12-13-05, 01:41 PM | If the necromaner KNOWS it going to find the paladin then maybe the Necro pulls a little... me evil? no! its nothing!, not dark magic for sure! just objectional magic, I have no Idea why that skeleton is fighting for us! maybe it will turn after the battle.... or fall aprart on its own... :D The IDea is The Paladin doesent KNOW hes a necro and detect evil wont work cuz hes not in the evil alignment yet, get him to make a deal with the other PC's NOT to tell him, that is if THEY know he is. Hey come on PC's dont know anything about the other PC's they dont ask or are not told. Maybe hes planning on assasinating the Paladin, or hopefully someone higher up in the devine ranks to knock off :) sounds genious to me |
| Rauric12-13-05, 03:06 PM | What are their ages? Just curious. It is tough when someone plays LG anything but especially a Pally. People who join an adventuring party only to kill them needlessly are rather pathetic in my book. Evil manipulators are smarter than to mess with his own party members. Does the group know about this situation? What are their feeling on it? How about the Pally? |
| Radijs12-13-05, 04:41 PM | The necro is somewhere between 17-19 years. The paladin and the fighter are 19-20-ish and the final player, whos building a warmage is as I believe around 16 years old. In this last session which I just led the players managed to work together a bit more. The necro managed to convince the paladin that he was using his tools for good purposes and managed to redeem himself by giving rest to a warrior cursed by the gods by helping him to complete his divine task so I allowed his evil aura to vanish. The fighter Seems to have learnt his lesson and hasn't tried to act chaotic stupid since then. The warmage couldn't make it tonight. |
