| Illion the Red04-27-06, 04:49 PM | Broken Bones are healed by simple curing magic. There is no mechanic for them in the core rules. I suppose if you wanted to include them as a plot device, you certainly could imposing certain penalties based on which bones were broken. |
| LCD2YOU04-27-06, 06:28 PM | If you want to add spice to the game, I don't know of any broken bones rules. What I do is assign a DC, Fort save, based on damage due to blunt force trauma like falling, etc. The DC are four fold: 1: 1st save is to see if the character has a broken bone. If they fail, they have a broken bone. 2: The 2nd roll to see if the broken bone is just a fracture or an actual break. If they save, it is a hairline fracture. 3: If they fail the save, then they roll again to see if it is a simple fracture or a compound fracture. 4: If they fail the 3rd roll, they roll to see if there are complications. Yes, it is cumbersome but it really has added to the game and the players really think about what they are going to do, instead of saying, "Oh, well, it's only 40 feet, I'll jump down and take a max of 4d6". |

| TalonofTiamat04-27-06, 07:02 PM | Pehaps I should have phrased the question better. I was looking for rules about if you're trying to break someone's bones. I had a character last meeting who had a guy in a choke hold and wanted to break his neck. |
| ElNoNombreHombre04-27-06, 09:36 PM | There's already rules for what the character wanted to do. Trying to break someone's neck is a coup de grace as far as the rules care. He can't do it unless the person is helpless (that is, totally unable to defend himself by being unconcious or paralyzed or otherwise suffering under a similar condition). To simulate the breaking of his neck, you could follow the CdG rules using the character's unarmed strike damage. If the victim is not helpless, you'd just keep doing grapple checks to damage the person being choked until he fell unconcious, then you could proceed to the CdG. But in general, there's no real way to break someone's bones, as far as any WotC rules I'm aware of. |
| celtredleg04-27-06, 10:32 PM | After the broken neck comes the shot to the eyes. Then it very soon turns into every shot is a called shot. It is a bad idea. DnD has no rules for parrying, but more HP takes care of that. A specific area hit bypasses that defense. And remeber, the monsters get the same ability. It quickly turns into submachineguns at 10'. Everybody goes down with the first hit. Avoid it like the plague. It will only wreck your game in short order. |
