08-19-06, 11:35 PM ok so may sig. other, picked up the Tome of Magic today and has already set out to make a True Namer, he finishes and tells me what it can do...my jaw drops to the crazy stuff a 4th lvl true speaker can do! i really feel this class is broken, maybe im just parnoid, any feedback?

08-20-06, 12:21 AM well, true namers are pretty broken, but you have to consider what true names entail:

true name checks every time one is spoken
research
and the potential to screw over the character when someone else figures out their true name ^_^

It is broken. But in the underpowered way, rather than the overpowered way. The DC to do anything is 15+(2xCR). Which gets ridiculous. DC55 to affect a level 20 creature (even yourself..).

It's not overpowered.

Actually, any ability based on skill checks can be generally warped to obscene levels with a little ability synergy. Epic Spellcasting is the most obvious and most blatant offender, but it generally applies to all abilities equally.

You might have something there if there was any skill that synergized with it outside of houseruling. Truespeaking is fairly balanced from what I have seen, the biggest issue tends to be more that you need to figure out what you want to focus on to take complimentary utterances, that and proper feat planning is tough.

I notice there is a feat which grants you access to any single manuever for which you meet the pre-requisits. I also notice that there is a shadow hand strike that deals 15d6 and has no pre-requisits. What's up with that?

You still need the proper initiator level, and for the most obvious targets (fighters), thier IL is 1/2 their class levels, which means they still cant get it until VERY high levels. But I still expect that to be errata'd.
