I'm wanting to try something new with loot and magic item purchasing in my current campaign and I'm curious on this "broker" system I keep hearing about. Does anyone here have experience with it that could tell me how it works, exactly?

I'm not familiar with the "broker" system, unless we're talking IRL.

As for buying and selling magic items, it's being tossed around in Regdar's Repository:

It's not much, but I hope this helps.

In a broker systems, merchants who sell magic items do not keep shops per se. Instead, they act as mediators between people who wish to buy items and people who wish to sell them. The broker's place of business is an office, not a storefront.

If you want to buy an item, you look for a broker, who in turn checks to see if the item you want is available nearby. If it is, then you give him the money and make an appointment, usually at some point within the next few days, when the broker will have the item you want.

If you want to sell an item, you list it with the local brokers along with your asking price (usually the market price). When someone wishes to buy an item, the broker will collect their money and contact you. You then give the item to the broker, who gives you the payment (minus a fee, which is how the broker makes his money) and then gives the item to the buyer.
