Lxarth 07-14-04, 05:58 PM	I have a couple thoughts: Seems like I can do the same thingh on paper, and less time too. Not very cost efficient if i was to print something like that out. I like how it looks but I'm inclined to ask why? (whats the point of that?) The only map i have not 'hand-drawn' was the overland map i found on WotC map-o-week thing...i just happen to find excatly what my continent looked like...it was great. I still prefer to do my own cities by hand...just seems more real that way...anywho

chris7476 07-14-04, 06:55 PM	I still like to draw my own maps. I don't see the real advantage to spending time to figure out indicate a fountain when I can just draw a circle inside another circle. Then you have to print out some huge color map and blow all your ink.

kliate 07-14-04, 08:19 PM	For 5' squares, I tend to go with excel, either to build the entire map or for a grid to draw on. For world maps, I'll tend to go with windows paint or graph paper - whatever's convenient at the time.

I see (said the blind man)...well in that case, i think you did a good job, here's an idea: have a-z on one side and 1-24 on another, so when your players are like "I move to engage the behold" they can tell you i move from a7-b7-c7-c6...which might look like a "7" but alows everyone to know how they moved and you know if they cross through Attacks of Oppertunities and over traps.

Daavid Muhameed 07-15-04, 02:57 AM	chris7476, when im not drawing my players characters ('cause my drawing technique is unstoppable -_-) i almost exclusively draw maps by hand. i do use photoshop to make some detailed maps and portraits, and show them to my players; but most of what they get in-game is B&W and by hand. photoshop is practically *by hand* if your good though, its easy to make a retarded digital image.

Been using that Word-A-Day calender again, huh? ;) What I find annoying is that we can't use the word wh*re. Actually, being able to use the word c*ck might be nice as well. You wouldn't think that the word would have so many uses on a D&D forum, but I've been suprised at how many references to c*ck fighting I've seen here. I had to spend a minute choosing the words I used in this post, so I didn't end up saying something like "Using c*ck would be really nice" or something...like.....awww, dammit! ;)

You just got to rub it in - dontcha? lol If my wife worked at a print shop she would never be bored at work! PS - Duh, forgot to post what I was gonna say originally, I do still draw my maps by hand and then spice them up with some PhotoShop work.

I'll try to upload one of my before/after images sometime soon. I've also started doing the following: Hand draw a map Scan the map into the pc Make modifications if needed Print the map in B&W heavy paper Color the map using watercolors or colored pencils Scan the colorized map into the pc Make modifications if needed Print the map using a color printer Black-ink outline the map Scan the outlined map into the pc It's a lot of work, but the result is really nice. This is the method we're using for the adventure my wife and I are writing for .pdf sale.
