I have given my PC's the ability to develop a town which I have created. There are already people their but it is on a main road so new resisdents can filter in if I so choose. I would like to know if anyone has any rules for buying land, creating buildings, adding floors or wings to current buildings, prices for constructing walls or fences, or anything else that has to do with expanding a small village.

I really need some good ideas because I want to be fair and balanced. Prices are important as well as labor and materials. Please post if you have any input. Any at all. Including, you suck or any other such negative messages. I just want input.

Price of materials in a medieval setting is dictated by distance to necessary resources, so this becomes necessary information.

Thankyou for you input. I really need good greyhawk land prices by squarefoot and other such things.

we tend to make the price of a building (including construction, materials, labor) in gp the same as a house where we live (we live in the semi-rural midwest). A small 1 story (size of a ranch style house) costs about 150,000gp. Up to a very large mansion (hollywood style) costing 1-2 million gp.

we don't usually allow the pc's to build strongholds or anything like that.

shops and the sort cost about 3/4 of the cost of an equivalent size house, since the owner has to pay to stock the place, too.

The Stronghold Builders guide is an excellent book for this type of thing. There are also several web resources which include a simple system for F=food R=resources, as well as the cost of building various things (A mine costs F-1 R-2) and so on.

I would also be interested in a pricelist/guide/whatever for building a town from scratch, or at the very least a village with a keep. Rent prices, upkeep, and generally how to run a village/town/city/whatever.
