By now, he is the King of some wilderness area... With his money, he plans to hire builders to build a castle. I got some questions for you guys... 1- Is there a specific rule for building such structures (and not simply buying them) ? 2- What would you do if you were to get through that ? 3 - What you think of that house-rule that I jsute made. In the DMG PG 101, the cost of a Castle is 500,000 GP. The structure is being built with a skillcheck Craft (Building) (I knew that there is many parts of the castle that could require different skillchecks like masonery and charpentry but anyway, it would be too long for making all those checks.) The thing is that someone does not build a castle by itself. in the DMG, it says that the castle has 15 to 25 rooms and a wall... Let's say that thye character making the skill check is the MASTER BUILDER. Any additionnal support can use Aid other to give the master builder a +2 on the skillcheck... If the character can hire many support, let's say 50 additional builders, he could get a +100 to the skill check (if they all success their aid another action) To limit the builders, I decided that there could be a cap of 10 additional builders by room or wall. So if the castle hass 20 rooms, plus the wall, there could be 210 additional builders (since 10 builders x (20 rooms + 1 wall) = 210) Let's suppose the master builder has +15 modifier (ranks + ability mod +etc.) let's say that 90% of the builders succeded the aid another action (so 189 builders made it) 189 aid means a +378 modifier for a grand total of +393 modifier. Let's say that the master builder rolled a 10. It makes a result of 403. I checked the Craft DC in the PHB PG 71 and decided that a building is a more complex item that any of those mentionned within the table... so i've put a DC 30 With a result of 137, each week, the builders build an equivalent of 12090 sp in a week. The castle worthing a 500,000 GP (so 5,000,000 SP), the builders will take 413 weeks to build, so 7,9 years... What you think of that system ? |

This will have most of the things you need to put together a decent castle and the process is pretty fun. http://www.dungeonsdragonsblog.com/product-review-stronghold-builders-guidebook/ Dungeon Master http://www.dungeonsdragonsblog.com |
