Also pg.129 of PHB (1) has listed for hirelings trained and untrained. (Commoner or Expert, I guess).

Yeah, I rarely use the DMG anymore. :whatsthis
I use a computer program to claculate CR/ECL/ for XP and most of the rules questions in game are resolved with the PHB (especially all the spell questions). About the only thing I use the DMG for anymore is magic item tables. (Even NPCs are getting rolled up without that DMG being opened).

Quarry Workers: Stone Cutters paid one gold piece per one ton block. That way you sell to buyers at two gold pieces per ton. A quarry with a thousand people will pay your Wizard-merchant a good monthly wage.
Skills in Stone cutting will determine how big a block they can carve/handle.

Well, until you run into a crew that can carve your rocks up faster then you can sell them. But if you start going into that kind of detail you may find yourself doing more work on a 'side quest' (running the quarry) then the actual adventuring itself.

Recurring payments to the employees and miscellaneous expenses are all factored into the profit roll for simplification
