Buying Adventures [Archive] - Wizards Community

I posted on this board a month or two ago to ask for advice as a new DM. I've now had some time to practice DMing, and to hopefully improve. The only problem is that I don't have enough spare time to creat a Campaign or Adventure. I'm studying for important exams at the moment, which themselves happen in two months. So the sessions that I do prepare are often ill thought out and don't run very smoothly.

To solve this problem, I'd like to buy a pre-written adventure. The only ones I can find though are for 3rd edition. Are they easy enough to adapt for 3.5e? And does anyone have any recommendations? My choice is somewhat limited because I'm forced to order from Amazon in the UK, but "The Sunless Citadel" looks decent enough.

03-23-06, 02:37 PM I'd start with the host of free ones from the WOTC site. They are generally well-written and...FREE!!! Try to beat that price on Amazon...I dare you!

03-23-06, 02:40 PM There are a few options you can use.

1.) Go to the downloads section right here at Wizards, they have a ton of free to use stories that you can use. My friend has been tying them together because he also doesn't have time to write a campaign himself.

2.) Use PlanetADnD.Com and Google to find other free to use adventures. Not all of them will be in 3.5 lingo, but even a 2E campaign can be converted easy enough. Change XP awards (A copy of Unearthed Arcana) will help you ton with that, also use the good ol' MM to rplace the encounters in the book. Might have to make some NPCs as well; however all this time invested will still probably be less then 2 hours for a complete mod.

3.) Just practice being Ad-Hoc. This is my perfered method. I usually don't have much more of an idea what the PCs are going to go through then they do, but after doing it this way for years people tend to think that I spend hours a week preping for our session.

03-23-06, 02:40 PM I've went through a few of the free adventures, but I'd like something a little longer. Of course now I realise that it may take as long as 6 weeks for Amazon.co.uk to get most of the adventures in stock. :weep:
