Teehee, spaniard puns. Anyways, I don't want to send the PC's on a quest for a fraud, so I'm giving the head real powers. Most unfortunately, I can't think of anything reasonable, and I haven't been able to for 3 weeks. :weep:
Help me! PLEASE!

Immunity to critical hits?

Undead subtype?

Immortality?

Ultimate Cosmic Power?

Give 'em anything you want. Let them enjoy the 5 to 15 seconds of whatever it is they'll have before the brain in their severed head dies.

Well if you want to have a bit of fun with it and think the players won't mind make it so it's just an undead head or something still able to talk that was left where you want it, and the rumors get around or however it's disseminated. It doesn't need to give powers, or items but could have information that might get the pcs to take it along.

Well it depends on what you expect the head to be capable of. Is it an artifact (like the Hand and Eye of Vecna)? Or is it an entity capable of fighting pesky PC's? Might be fun to send them off thinking that they're after an artifact, but when they show up, find it alive and kicking-well, undead and biting, I guess. :P Next question is what power level will everyone be? "What should it do?" is a very differant question for an 8th level party versus a 22nd level party.

What they find is not actually the head of Vecna, but the head of the long believed ficticious, and now undead, explorer, Francisco Cabezadevecna, which will lead them to the legendary Fountain of Undeath.

Bathing in the fountain turns you into a half rotted intellegent undead. Probably a necropolitan from Liber Mortis.
