| Ell03-21-08, 07:50 PM | I'm currently lauching two campaigns with only one character in each. Are there any general rules despite "test and see" to calculate the appropriate CR for an encounter in such a campaign? One of the characters starts as a wizard-1 in a magic school. She's a diviner, and the player wants to play intrigue and detective, but I want to spice things up with a little bit of combat. The problem is, she's easily killed by almost anything... Another character is a level 7 swordsage, and he will be engaging in combat quite a bit. The problem is not to kill him in the process. My combat is usually very tactic-intensive, with rather intelligent foes using terrain to their advantage and employing every dirty trick I can think about. I could "tune it down" for a bit, but I don't like to babysit the players. My view is that players don't want their characters to be OK and safe, they want to feel challenged. So how do I challenge them without making them instantly dead? |
