| Ced66603-18-07, 06:25 AM | Hello ! I have a little question related to calculation of XP. Suppose that you have a room that contains several monsters: 5 kobolds (CR 1/6), 1 dire weasel (CR 2) and a trap (CR 1). How do you calculate XP in that case ? You simply calculate the XP for each monsters independently ? Meaning that you will have: * 300 X 5/6 (for the kobolds) = 250 * 600 (for the weasel) * 300 (for the trap) divided for 5 players which makes a total of 230 XP ? It is not very clear when you have several monsters with different CR. Thanks for clearing this point :) |

Going from immersive roleplaying to number crunching burns for me, so I just wander off into the other room with my PC and punch in the numbers. I long for the day my laptop comes back from the shop... They said it would be back in two weeks... Five weeks ago...:( |

| Nom03-18-07, 10:01 AM | Technically, you count XP per monster per PC, but since a party where all PCs are the same level will all get the same thing, you can abbreviate that part. But the rules in the DMG are actually quite clear: see DMG pg 37 points 2 and 3. "For each monster ...". |

Yes, I agree with that but as they were all the same level, I neglected that part. Just a small note, but aren't kobolds CR 1/4? Yes, standard kobolds are CR 1/4 but these ones were 'modified' kobolds (less hp and reduced attack bonus compared to standard kobolds). |
| NoldorForce03-18-07, 02:23 PM | You're correct, assuming that the players are at 1st level. After all, XP from an encounter can change depending on character ECL (subjective difficulty) as well as with its basic power (objective difficulty). |
