I'm starting a campaign and have TOTALLY NO IDEAS

I can only come up with weird things like: a world that's turned inside out??? floating islands above a huge sea???

does someone have any ideas???

(P.S. see my sig for how hopeless I am)

Start out with the small things 1st man. you know the things that the players are more likely to interact with.
Like a city. once you get the ball roling you'll think of stuff.

I second that instead of tryign to make a whole world for your Homebrew Campaign, instead just make the city they start in. Populate lightly with NPC's and missions etc.

Maybe make a couple of things outside of that, as you play the world will expand as the Players RP. Take good notes often the PC's will have great Idea's as well. As you unfold the world with the PC's then modify your notes accordingly.

If you don't want to make a homebrew game, I'd suggest trying to get some information on Greyhawk since thats the "basic" world for D&D (maps etc)

IF you want to spend alot of money get into Forgotten Realms its a well done world, though it is a bit Munchkiny but you can just omit stuff like that :)

Personally I draw a map first. On this map I make one or two cities. Then I figure out what my players are going to do in those cities, and make that part of each place.

Later I finish the map. When I finish the map I make a few notes about each location on the map.

I would advise having an adventure ready while your in the first steps of making your world.

Ideas for your campaign, hmm. Well you could run a pirate campaign, or an old world organized crime thing, like the Godfather meets Lord of the Rings. Or a seceret wing of the Dukes court, kind of like a CIA type thing. Of course you could always do good old fashion D&D and have your characters simply be heroes and adventurers.

Good luck.
