| TheScapegoat09-17-06, 12:32 AM | Being that vague probably wont get you much help. If your just looking for a basic world idea to start from how about a world where the land masses are larege islands all floating over a massive expansive of negative energy. A single god created the world but his/her brother/sister god was jealous. The negative energy 'field' was created by the other god to destory the lands. The gravity of the field pulls the islands down but the god that created the world pulls them up, so it is an endless struggle with the islands shifting up and down. Some islands are close to the energy 'field' and get pulled down into it and have strange creatures and vegitation on them. You could have winged races and means for other races to travel between the lands. Some idea i was kicking around awhile back, might be fun. |

You want more detail okay here are some of the things I was pastly thinking of Three continets at war A world where chaos rules The world is in one castle Those are some of my previous ideas you can build upon them if are to wish that. |
| Amon_WinterfallIV09-17-06, 12:41 AM | Okay. Let's handle this the following way: What did you want your characters to primarily do? --If you want to dungeon crawl, make sure that their world has been inhabited since ancient times, and that there are many treasures still left, as well as many forces who would turn bustling towns into new ruins. --If you an explorative campaign, the reverse should be true: Civilization is just a tiny blip on the radar. --If you want a lot of ship to ship battles, fights involving sheer cliffs and drops, or even wild magic zones, build them in. Also consider a few more factors as well: Regarding Level: How powerful are the people and the monsters in your world? The stronger the people and monsters are, the harder it is for the PCs to act on a large scale. If a CR 10 can kill an entire town by itself, 10th level characters will also be decisive. If the Tarrasque gets shown whos the boss, even Epic Characters will be decisive. Basically, the more powerful everyone else is, the less powerful the PCs are. FR has Lv. 30+ characters running around; I have generally 25s running around--but that is up to you. Regarding weather: Did you want to use weather as a threat to the PCs, or is the idea of dealing with weather just too mundane for your tastes? If you want to use it as a threat, the weather should occasionally (or more frequently) throw out tornadoes, hurricanes, excessive heat, massive hailstorms, thunderstorms, and blizzards. If this isn't what you want, keep it temperate and don't tell anyone about it. Lastly, regarding Economics: Do you want to keep the DMG values for materials and the PHB values for items, or do you customize this by creating shortages, surpluses or other variations? If you want to customize your economy (which can be a lot of work for little benefit), you can place mines, farmland, roads and shipping routes for your people. This does mean, though, that you are going to have to be very careful about your world. As in any game, remember that the point is to have fun. Even a wild game of stopping plane-ripping mind flayers run by an evil red dragon is worthwhile. |

| mike_beavers09-22-06, 03:53 PM | if you want chaos rule, check out the eternal champion series by Michael Moorcock Elric, Hawkmoon, Corum are three series that the protangists deal with law and chaos and the ramifications. 3 continents at war depending on the size of the setting would require a ability to travel with some ease. I would decide what story you really want to have for your players and know if your players will buy into the story and go from that point |
