| Feral_Druid10-29-07, 08:18 PM | I'm thinking about starting a new campaign and I was hoping that the board could help me out. I have a basic idea for my campaign world, but it needs some fleshing-out. My world is primarily controlled by an extremely powerful religious organization. The organization came about hundreds of years ago due to an incident that occured, which resulted in the near-demolishing of the civilized world. The disaster was brought about by the fumbling experiments of a group of arcane spellcasters, who managed to summon some powerful force from another plane. The religious order came about as a result of this, and they take it upon themselves to control the use of the arcane arts. They accomplish this by having divine supervisors at the arcane schools, in addition to taxing all arcane casters a hefty fee. Naturally born spellcasters, like sorcerers, are nearly unheard of, because all of those who have the arcane spark are made to register with the religious government, and to attend the supervised academies. The acadamies only teach restricted magics. Some spells are considered forbidden, and are considered illegal. Any ideas? |

Perhaps at the time of the cataclysmic event that brought these guys to power there were dissenters who went into hiding, steal children and raise them in secret areas (they're outlaws anyway, why not have arcane means of hiding themselves from this group?), and go on about like this for generations. Granted, they'd be made to look like insane people or cruel criminals by the church. |

Make sure that the education of the wizards in supervised schools is more a problem than a solution for the religious. What about of some "Mystic Theurgee" leading the revelion? What have the elves say about all this? they are THE wizards. And Gnomes? they are THE ilussionists... Make the idea that the bards are also in middle of all this... Are they part of the dissaster? Have they any "tax" or authorization that lets them make their shows of dancing lights? Are the magic items prohibited? Are the religious making a monopolization of them? THINK! There are millions of things to say in a society like this one... or jus look for infomation about Amn in forgotten realms... They have more problem than solutions with the regulation of the arcane spellcasters. I made a campaing with some of these caracteristics. The revels won... and also the PC... |
