| Sarig the Genie05-14-04, 03:33 PM | I have the following books: The Three Core books Manual of the Planes Deities and Demigods Underdark Draconomicon Fiend Folio Ghostwalk Now, how to make a campaign/world which combines aspects of most of these? I got a few ideas on my own, but people around here always have some brilliant ideas I'd never think of on my own (; |

As most other races rarely get along, there is lots of infighting and potential betrayal(s) as generational foes (with armies) are forced to fight together to defeat the dragons. These foes know they need to work together to win, but cannot stop jockeying for a better position in the aftermath. As gods die, their people suffer similar setbacks. Genocide is definitely possible here... leading to Ghostwalk for the eradicated races. Or not. |

Let's take Ghostwalk say (which I don't have) ... the PCs are dead people who are trying to find a way back to being, well, not dead. They adventure for a while as ghosts (or what have you) then come back ... to the Underdark. There they try to find a way of getting back to the surface, and in doing so find themselves far from their homeland in a continent inhabited primarily by dragons and their kin. At this point they manage to get together the magic to escape, however because of the powerful magics protecting this continent, they end up on a different plane of reality ... perhaps using an Artifact that functions like the device in "Sliders" ... and every other adventure is spent on a different plane, always trying to figure out a way of tuning the device to get back to the Prime, or find a portal to the Prime. Finally they get back to the Prime and learn that their homeland has been invaded by creatures from either of the Abyss or the Hells ... and they have to deal with the various fiends as they clear up the land. Without the Epic level handbook, going into Dieties and Demigods is somewhat difficult, in my mind. Now the key is ... why do they want to go home, such that they don't want to stay in one of the many interesting places that you've exposed them to? |

Instead of this: Finally they get back to the Prime and learn that their homeland has been invaded by creatures from either of the Abyss or the Hells ... and they have to deal with the various fiends as they clear up the land. Make it so that the reason for their deaths is that the fiends were already on the Prime. They must get back to the Prime to ensure that they can keep the Prime from becoming another Fiendish Region. Only, when you are dead, you have no concept of time. So, you have to visit the Deities, and plead your case so that they will provide some help. |

I haven't really planned a lot yet, so thanks for the suggestions people! (: I like the dragon-war idea, has to think a bit about that. (As for the d&dm book, I wasn't planning on having the pc's fighting gods. The book still has a lot about the gods religions in it) The thing with using each book in succession isn't really my style, seems a bit railroading (although only a bit) Also, I don't need to use every book, or all which is in it. That would be silly. Also, when building a world, I'm thinking of having several of the old evil races (hobgoblins and so on) as neutral rather than evil, and they would have great kingdoms of their own much as the standard races. This would work quite good with the dragon-war idea actually. I realize that I've asked for help somewhat to early. I'll get back to you all when I've managed to drag a world together (: |
