So, I have been running our campaign in our group for close on 4 years now. One of the other members of the group has said he has an interest in running the next one.

I was wondering if any of you knew of any useful campaign writing resources out there?

I'm not so much looking for pre-built campaigns, but for "How-To" articles and the like, that give a new campgain-DM some advice on what to do to build an extended storyline, etc.

Any help would be appreciated.

Something I have thought about doing is writing adventures from the end backwards.

What-->Who-->Why-->How--When.

Choose a goal, say, to poison everyone in a certain city.

Then, you think about who would want to do that--evil clerics, especially of Incabulos, would be big on this kind of plot.

So we have evil clerics trying to poison a city.

You could include evil adventurers or mercenaries or city officials or whoever who feel they were wronged by the city--perhaps the Ghost of a mercenary commander who was massacred because the city didn't support his troops. He's been trying to get his revenge for a long time and he is supporting the evil cleric(s) in their efforts.

How would you poison an entire city? The water supply seems to be an easy way to get to everyone. You just need a sufficiently large quantity of poisonous substances, magically or naturally harvested in order to poison the water.
But maybe that wouldn't work well. You might not be able to get enough poison to dilute so much, so lets try and turn the water into unholy water instead--or so much of it that the city could thirst to death.

[Sorry I couldn't finish this. Ran out of time.]
