I am creating a campaign for a fresh set of 4-5 characters. It is really the absolute minimum, a history, a world, and a few adjustments the the core rules. Problem is, I cant think of a name for it. I don't really know how to come up with an appropriate name without sounding tacky or ripping something off.
The world pretty much consists of three continents. This is the known world, I know that there are others out there to come. The largest continent resembles Africa, but a third or less as large, and all deesrt. The desert varies from dunes to dirt to stone. This is Kumaras, the seed of the world.

In the past, there were to great wars. One included the Elemental armies using this world as a battlefield, the other a war between Dragons and the humanoid alliance. There is a strong elemental theme to this world. Really strong.

Thanks in advance for any help. I know it is really basic.

Are you asking for a name for the world or a name for an individual campaign (by "campaign", I mean a string of related adventures)?

If you're looking for the name of the world (and/or individual continents, cities, NPCs, etc), try The Ever-Changing Book of Names (http://sky.prohosting.com/kurimus/). If you like it, spend the $6 and register it. It's well worth it.

I am looking for the name of the world/ setting. I'm probably going to use some random Latin name.

Thanks much.

I suggest using a translator program. There are many free ones online. That is what I have used for my games to great success. For example...

The setting I have made is named Aarde. Anyone familiar with germanic languages will recognize that as the word, or similar to the word, for Earth. Sounds different enough to make everyone happy. In the Aarde setting there are four different campaigns settings, each on a different landmass. The main campaign takes palce on Freeden, fromt eh german freiden, meaning freedom. There is a setting that is based on feudal Japan called Hoshima, island of stars in Japanese. The last setting is Imar'aria. It's from a translator but I can't recall what it means right now. It is a desert setting, ala Middle East.

Check out the translators and start throwing around words that woudl describe your game. If it is based on war try translating words liek strife, death, battle, conflict, doom. Pick the salient feature of the setting and just translate it.

Just to add a plug for the EBoN, it's great. Every DM should use this. It's wonderful to just print a list of 100 random names before each game and have quick town, barkeep, wench, gaurd, kobold, whatever names. Use it. Love it :D

I love the process of coming up with names. It really gives you an opportunity to think about what your campaign is about. In my current campaign, the PC world is the only world on the material plane. I named it Solus (based on the english word "sole"). The land mass on which the campaign occurs is the largest land mass on the planet, so I named it Unar (from the italian word for one "Uno").

From the breakdown you have given of the campaign background, I get a strong sense of cyclical history, which makes me think of seasons. The strong elemental theme seems to tie into that. Merriam Webster says the english word "season" came from the french "saison" or latin "sation", so I'd go with world names based on those words, or on the sound of those words.

Suggestions: Mesais, Saion, Sonden, or Vaashun (Vay-shun).

I really like Mesais and Saion, I may use those myself. Also, thanks to this thread for showing me that book of names, I'll definately be using that for my game tomorrow. :D
