| Azuryan02-21-08, 12:50 AM | When applying the Zombie Template to the Leopard (or any feline for that matter) does it retain its Pounce, Improved Grab and Rake abilities? The MM says that; " Special Attacks: A zombie retains none of the base creature's special attacks. " And then it says; " Special Qualities. ... It retains any extraordinary special qualities that improve its melee or ranged attacks." I'm mostly confused as to which is correct in this case. |
| Shaggy_Shaggs02-21-08, 01:17 AM | Improved Grab, Pounce, and Rake are special attacks, not special qualities. The zombie loses them all. |
| Magrus02-21-08, 11:32 AM | Even if it kept them, Zombies are limited as to their actions per round, are they not? A move, charge, or standard attack. They can't full attack with or without pounce. |

A zombie can "partial charge" using the rules for Charge that allow for a creature to charge its standard distance if it is restricted to Standard Actions. I'm curious about this "Special Qualities. ... It retains any extraordinary special qualities that improve its melee or ranged attacks." Like what? I can't think of anything that would classify as a SQ that would qualify. |
| Azuryan02-21-08, 08:49 PM | So if someone cast Awaken Undead (from the spell compendium) on the Zombie Leopard would it gain those (ex) abilities? I'm unsure as the wording in the spell doesn't specify qualities or attacks; "...regain any extraordinary racial abilities they had in life, such as poison or scent." Would this then allow the creature to Pounce(ex) ? |

Gnome's +1 racial bonus on attack rolls against kobolds and goblinoids For what it's worth... it would have been better to wipe all Special Attacks & Special Qualities, period. |
| Turin02-22-08, 01:26 PM | Heh heh. You had to go through the whole MM to find those, didn't you? I briefly thought about it, flipped a couple pages, and then said "nah." :D But would zombies even keep weapon proficiency through type traits? Their type changes to undead, not undead (augmented). |
| Orchomenos02-22-08, 03:52 PM | In fact, the SRD! :D You're right, they wouldn't keep the traits after all. Though Zombies already keep manufactured weapon attacks and weapon proficiencies of the base creature. Does it mean that a zombie human bard would be proficient with a whip? I don't know! :nonono: |
