I am currently DMing a campaign with dragon PC's. As is stated in the subject line, I would like to know your thoughts on whether or not it would be possible/acceptable to resurrect a dragon character given their magical nature and typically long lives.

I am of the opinion that it cannot be done, even for a PC, but would very much welcome any input you may have on the subject.

There's no real reason to not allow his ressurection, although, I'm not so sure how good an idea a dragon PC is. There is nothing that says a dragon cannot be ressurected and since it is from the material plane i would assume there's nothing to prevent it.

Raise dead has restrictions. "Constructs, elementals, outsiders, and undead creatures can't be raised." Resurrection has the same restrictions. "[True Resurrection] can also resurrect elementals or outsiders, but it can't resurrect constructs or undead creatures." Note that in the latter two cases, restoring the original condition of a creature that had been made undead is not the same as "resurrecting" the undead (making it a functioning undead again).

In any case, dragons are not (typically) constructs, elementals, outsiders, or undead. They can be affected by raise dead, resurrection, and true resurrection in the same manner as any other creature not one of those categories.

Off topic, as to dragon PCs, both Savage Species and a recent Dragon issue have rules and guidelines for such things. I've seen it done ... sometimes it works real well, sometimes not at all. But its certainly possibly, and can be a lot of fun to try with the right campaign, DM, and play group.

It is actually an entire party of dragon characters, I should have clarified. We utilized some of the statistics for dragons as PC's from Dragon magazine and the rest are homebrew.

It is actually a very entertaining campaign thus far, albeit a bit of a challenge at times.

I don't see any reason dragons would be disallowed Resurrection - although anyone of high enough level to cast the spell would also probably find the miscellaneous pieces of the dragon's corpse to be very useful, indeed. People flock to the site of a dragon slaying and not just for the infamous treasure hoard.

I have found no rules preventing dragons from being resurected, and even if there was if you are playing a game where all of your pcs are dragons i would have droped the rule anyway.

also i would like to mention wizards put out a book the draconomicon that has a lot of material for playing dragon pcs thought i would mention it.
