| AnAverageDM09-17-04, 10:51 AM | On page 222 of the DMG the very first thing it says is: Hardness and hit points An attacker cannot damage a magic weapon that has an enhancement bonus unless his own weapon has at least as high an enhancement bonus as the weapon or shield struck. Does this mean that my NPC fire giant with improved sunder, but only a masterwork great sword, can do no damage to my players +1 battle axe? Why does this not sound right? Am I missing something? |
| Mirtek09-17-04, 10:59 AM | 3.0e or 3.5e DMG? In 3.0e yes, only a weapon with an equal or higher + can sunder magical weapon. Your giant with his [MW] greatsword can't even sunder the string of a +1 shortbow. In 3.5e this rule is, AFAIK, gone. You can damage magical weapons with any weapon. |
| AnAverageDM09-17-04, 11:03 AM | this is out of my 3.5 DMG. first printing: July 2003 |
| EatFlan09-17-04, 11:08 AM | Well masterwork gives +1 to attack, and enhancement +1 gives the same to attack and +1 to damage why not just upgrade the sword. not like it's that big a difference. anyways i think the rule now is per +1 enhancement they get 10 hardness & 10 hp...or something. |
| Ma'ElKoth09-17-04, 11:23 AM | I'm afraid I don't know where, but this has been errataed. Anything can sunder anything now. Just remember to add the enhancement bonus to the weapon's hardness. Oh, and I think it was supposed to be changed in 3.0 too. |
| AnAverageDM09-17-04, 11:48 AM | i found it. http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/er/20040125a thanks to everyone. |
