| rbrt_Spade08-10-05, 03:18 PM | ok, im starting an online group and made a website for it with a grid and chatroom. can you guys look at it and think if its good to play on? and any other thoughts. the site (http://www.freewebs.com/dndgames/gamepage.htm) |
| cambric08-10-05, 03:27 PM | Interesting...I can see the potential. Wouldn't work for me...but I see how this could work. |
| AlexVADnD08-10-05, 04:12 PM | Clever concept, couple of thoughts though: The chat function took a while to load, and never seemed to get running. The battle grid, assuming the squares are 5'x5" will work for some interiors but will need to me much larger for exteriors. The bubbles floating up from the cursor was really annoying. Other than that, I think it would work. |
| Ravenseye08-10-05, 04:19 PM | Yeah a couple of things. I am at a big resolution but I had to scroll to see the grid and the chatbox. I'd line them side by side. Lose all the funky stuff, the bubbles and all motion things. They're distracting and make the page look worse. Lose the background tiling, or make it more subtle. |
| DogOnWheels08-10-05, 05:53 PM | Someday, someone will design the perfect online venue for D&D, for those who do not have a local group. Sitting around a table is & always will be the best way. I wish you well... |

Your in-depth and insightful analysis of the original poster’s website will surely provide him with the guidance he needs to improve upon his craft and address issues with his site. Were all here as helpful as you, these boards would be a web-based Nirvana. |
| rbrt_Spade08-10-05, 07:16 PM | ok the site takes a while to load- sorry i use broadbrad and the game page takes about 1min to load the chat and grid thanks-! post other thoughts |

| DaveReaves08-10-05, 07:42 PM | So I loaded this page on my shafty work computer and my ram ussage went though the roof, a fan started whizzing (last time this happened a plume of dust and smoke came out) and the bubbles started moving REALLY slow. Now my little workstation was obviously not ment for that kind of thing, but you may want to take into consideration shafty comps while doing this. Kill the bubbles. Things following the cursor is annoying. Also, look into a larger background pic of the dragon. Tiled pics like that are bad for the eyes. I wasnt able to make the battlegrid do anything, but I'll take your word for it that it works. Has potential. |
| jiggalarry08-10-05, 08:47 PM | a few things, mostly what has been said before tho -get rid of the bubbles. while they are cute for the first 5 seconds, after that they get annoying. - the background tiles are nice, but i really think they are overly distracting. i would find concentrating on the game a lot easier without them. if you want to keep the fantasy theme there are some backgrounds that look like the stones in a castle wall. gives a good feel without really popping out at you. otherwise it looks pretty good :D |
| ccerose08-10-05, 11:12 PM | Why don't you just go here: http://www.openrpg.com/index.php?page=install Just follow: Step 1: Install Python Step 2: Install wxPython Step 3: Install OpenRPG Step 4: Run OpenRPG! It has a dice roller, chat feature, grid map that allows you to import your own jpgs. You can cover the map with a "fog of war" allowing you to reveal the map as your players move through it. I was able to import a map that was 24"x36". You can also create jpg minis and move those around on the grid as well. To the OP, I concur with most of the other posts. Interesting concept, but lots of distraction, and the chat feature never loaded properly. |
