My PC's have been captured by drow. Not standard drow.

These are an offshoot called Netherwood drow. They live in a dark forrest instead of in the underdark and there primary diety is Weejas although some worship Vecna. They're a neutral society. They aren't evil but they're extremely Xenophobic and do not trust outsiders especially humans.

Two rogues in my part on a PC half elf and the other an npc human have been hiding in Netherwood to avoid being arrested for the murder of a Royal guard.

They've been captured by the drow, normally they'd just be thrown in a dungeon to keep the secret of Netherwood safe. But since they escaped from their initial place of captivity and saved the drow village from a raiding party of Gnolls they've been given consideration. Right now their being held in the village center , I'm having trouble thinking of what should happen next.

Are there any thoughts as to the logical course of events in this situation.

If it were typical drow, I'd ask them if they'd like me to make a spider souflee. Seeing as (at least in my game) Spiders are to Drow as cows are to the Hindu, they'll just kill you quicker. But at least you'll die with a grin on your face.

have the town put them through a small series of challenges to determine their morality. (do you save the girl, or the priceless god destroying artifact? the artiact? ooooo sorry, wrong choice.)

Someone in the party should hit on the hottest, softest breasted drow they can see. He/She should tell her that her skin is as beautiful as the darkist midnight, and her hair shines like the moon, and her eyes look like stars piercing an infinite nighttime.

Or something of that nature.

Like stars through leaves also works.

Anyway as a dm this is your chance to give them a quest. Let them leave to prove themselves. If they runway and never come back... fine, they my send assassins or just never write back, but let the party know if they can find favor with the drow they may get token of their appreciation. maybe their has been a illusive mindflayer terrorizing their village that needs killing.

They can leave but are told they will be "watched" from now on. or...

They now have to live out the rest of their days with the drow in the woods or...

They are allowed to become drow-friends and get a super-secret special drow-friends ring and secret code/decoder and badge plus invites to all the drug fuelled night time raves/orgies and are taught the uber fantastical super dooper secret handshake that you only get for being a kewl-drow-friend and best Noll-killa in da Netherwudz or something... (sorry its now 3:04am here ;))

Have the drow offer them friendship and allow them to go as long as they undergo a special ritual:

1. the ritual wipes away the PC's memories of the Netherwood drow and thats that or...

2. the ritual puts an invisible rune upon the PC's and if they ever try to tell others about the Netherwood drow they suffer immense pain and damage leading to death. Use something simular to the rules for the master/slave rings from BoVD.

Given that this particular group of drow are xenophobic rather that evil, their main focus is going to be keeping the location of their village secret. If they can do this without killing the PC that's fine with them. So the question for them becomes "How do we keep these guys from talking?"

If the PCs can gain the trust of the community the problem is solved. If not, they can always try to escape from the drow. They aren't likely to have a chance in hell of getting away from the drow in their home woods - these are ELVES! - but it might make for a fun run before they're hunted down and killed. Next there's the possibility that they can reach some kind of deal with the drow that will ensure the PC's silence. Or the drow may have some kind of spell, potion, etc., to wipe the exact location of the village from the PC's minds.

Of course, it'll be easier for the drow to simply kill them in their sleep, burn the bodies and scatter the ashes to the four winds, but that'll kinda kill the campaign.

Yeah but they did help save the village from a Gnoll raid. Since they've been so cooperative I've decided the drow would go a little easier on them.

So far I've gotten kinda general ideas.

Perhaps I can factor in some other thoughts to get some other thoughs.

For one in my campain world the drow are a legend, going around saying "I found a Drow nation" Is kinda like saying "I saw Elvis at the mall". That might help them in negotiating freedom.

The PC has already expressed understanding for the Drow's desire to remain secret.

Mark of Justice. Even better, a new spell:
Greater Mark of Justice
Cleric 9
Necromancy
Casting Time: 10 minutes
Duration: Permanent until discharged
Save: Fortitude Partial
SR: Yes
When Greater Mark of Justice is cast, specify a condition that will trigger it. If the target triggers the spell, they die. On a successful save, the target gains 3 negative levels instead.

There. If they all agree to the mark, then there is no problem. If they do tell someone about the Drow village, they end up smiting themselves.

C'mon, it's a *Greater* mark of justice. Make it 9 negative levels, just to match the level of the spell. =)

"If they move, kill them. In fact, kill one right now just so that the others understand."

...or, if you don't like that idea... the spellcaster main NPC/BBNG in my campaign uses cursed Mercendiary Gems which are trigger fireballs if the holder betrays the creator. The mercenaries are then paid in gems, which include the Mercendiaries (which cannot be effectively sold or discarded without a Remove Curse).

When I ran into a smiliar problem with a clan of dragonkin, I solved it by knocking the players out and bringing them too months later. I told them that the last image they saw was the dragonkin chieftan casting some powerful and eldritch magic on them and then they awoke in a slave caravan. When the [players returned to the dragonkin outpost they found it deserted and all its riches gone. They have been searching for it ever since, it is kind of a constant sub-quest in my campaign.

And whatever you do, remember that the Drow society is female-dominant, so NEVER say she'd make a goodhousewife. Impalement will follow.

On the contrarty that could work. Femal dominated need only means that the female role, whatever it may be is more important than the male role. In a matirarchal society caring for children and running a home could be considered a much more important and respected role then simply providing a family with monatary support.

Although this has lead me to some development Ideas. I think I'll have all clerics of Weejas female (simply because Weejas is female) and all male clerics followers of the cult of Vecna.

Well I don’t know about you guys, but depending on how revealing the clothing is, you can tell the soft breasts from the hard breasts by just looking. But ask them if you can give them a feel test just to make sure they are the one...

Also if the females are anything like males in our culture, they will want you to go right out and grab them. I know if a moderately hot girl grabbed my **** on the street I wouldn’t mind too much. Or if I captured someone in my secret town and they made a pass at me (and were pretty hot) I would think... "hay this whole having prisoners thing may not be so bad".

im sorry Roguery... can you ever forgive me... AHHHH :b:

Female dominated doesn't mean that all gender stereotypes are reversed. It just means the women is considered better then the man.

They did a good deed for the village in defending it...yet the villagers are concerned about their existence being exposed. Sounds to me like you could have a big village pow wow and have the pcs bear witness to it (its lots of fun watching your fate be determined by others!) and have various solutions offered by the hard and soft elements of the village. Finally, present the party with a unique challenge that takes them out of their element and accents their 'host's to determine their fate.

What about a forest spider race for instance? Suddenly it all comes down to their ride skill on a large tempermental poisonous spider mount! :D

Being Xenophobic, their dominant females wont bother using them for breeding stock. Great Warriors? Use them Sexually, Club them into unconciousness, and dump them unconcious someplace down stream with a geas to never reveal or remember what happened...

"You will remember nothing of this village, you will march naked to Greyhawk castle and tell those who ask about the strange moving lights in the sky."-surface Drow inside joke

Ok, so these dark elves aren't idiots, right? They've successfully mythologized their culture in the outside world to the point where even if the PCs confessed everything that transpired in the Netherwood when they finally escape, no one would believe them. This leads me to believe they know a thing or two about propaganda.

They must wonder what the deal is with a bunch of people from the outside world deliberately hiding in the woods with such a sinister, foreboding legend. What are they hiding from? The dark elves should inquire (magically, of course) about why the PCs ran away from their home.

Once they figure out the heroes are probably being hunted for murder, the drow should be a lot more concerned about their trail. If the heroes hadn't saved the dark elves from the gnolls, I would say even a predominantly neutral race would be scared enough to execute them and dispose of the evidence. But now they've been given pause for thought: if they could somehow mindwipe them and dump them on the border of the wood where they entered originally, along with a Geas never to set foot in the forest again... that would be ideal.

With any luck, the old trail will expire or the hunters will find the PCs relatively quickly and they won't even consider entering the Netherwood. If the PCs are captured, no amount of interrogation will suffice; they're being sincere when they tell their captors they don't have a clue what happened during that week (or however long it was).

As an alternative to all the evilness stuff, and since we're throwing around high-level Magic like Geas, why not go a different route. The party has demonstrated loyalty to the tribe. The tribe will demonstrate loyalty to the party; Give them an Initiation ritual, possibly a "sexxing-in", since I don't think tagging up the forest is what the drow want, and when they wake up in the morning, surprise! "Everyone, change the race on your character sheet to "Elf, Drow."

There has to be at least one bard around, take them out of the village, kick 'em to unconsciousness and then have the bard modify memory problem solved, or am I missing something?, maybe have a few scouts watch them untill they wake up since they did help the village and you probably don't want a TPK, you might also drop a small reward on them, can you say plot hook, waking up in a forest with a load of stuff you don't remember acquiring and with no memory of what you did for the past few days (of course if the drow are really smart they'll implant a memory to prevent the PCs kicking around the forest trying to find out what just happened

To simplify the suggestion, I really think this is a good idea. That is, to have them join the tribe in some sort of ritual, therefore any lawful or good character will feel compelled to protect the location of the tribe.

Simple, gets the job done, and allows for some unique roleplaying.

Heck you could even do some research on tribal ceremony and pull bits and pieces to make the encounter really detailed!

They already know about that. The PC told them.

I've heard a lot of the memory erasing ideas. I'm not to keen on them, they've leveled up in the forrest already if I erase their entire memory of ever entering Neather wood that would erase all the experiance they've picked up. Maybe thats not the rules but thats what makes sense.

I'm thinking something a little different. The Drow village lost all of their rangers in the raid. The PCs are good fighters and would no doubt be an exellent help in protecting the village. For a short time I'll have them captive in the village then another band of gnolls attacks. The PCs then become defenders of the village until more rangers are dispatched or trained. With their new respect they'll be permitted to journey to the nearest city eventually they'll be recognized almost as fellow drow and permitted to go as they please. If they do some other good things perhaps the drow would be willing to spruce up their cabin, and offer protection from any bounty hunters that come looking for the PCs. A sort of mutual protection between the PCs and the drow grows.

Looks like a whole campain's in the works hear.

To simplify the suggestion, I really think this is a good idea. That is, to have them join the tribe in some sort of ritual, therefore any lawful or good character will feel compelled to protect the location of the tribe.

Well they're chaotic good rogues, but they already respect the drows desire to remain hidden what with them
