| 12th monkey02-01-05, 10:41 PM | ok i want to capture my PC's with a couple of lvl 10 arcane archers (with a new feat me and my friends came up with that allows an archer to knock back 3 arrows at a time and fire them at a single target) and my PC's are as follows: lvl 14 fighter/dwarven defender lvl 14 ranger/psychic warrior/psion/pyrokeneticist lvl 12 monk (yes the second guy likes to multiclass) well my fighter loves to go head-to-head in an encounter and my ranger/everything else will not back down from a battle im mean once he had gotten captured by a group of people and hog tied but a couple of minutes later he burned through his ropes and did about 200dmg to each of the 3 guys holding him by blowing up the "unknown powder" they had found while it was attached to his belt. granted he came out of it with negative something HP. and the monk is an actual bafoon he tries to distract everyone by acting like a total idiot. my fighter and my "bafoon" arent really the hard ones to capture...its the ranger if you could give me any advice on how to deal with someone who will go to suicide just to avoid loosing i would greatly appreciate it |
| iluvdnd4702-01-05, 11:41 PM | I think that two level 10 arcane archers will have a hard time capturing that group. Normal ways to capture the PCs: -Forcecage can nab a bunch of them with no save. Couple that with Forbiddance and its really hard to get out of. -spells like mass hold person, symbol of sleep, symbol of persuasion, mass charm etc. -have powerful NPCs beat the crap out of them with non-lethal damage -ambush them in some situation that they can't have all their gear with them (eg) at a royal ball, dinner at a noble's house. (this may be your best bet if the arcane archers want to have a shot at all) With the ranger, let him think he's fighting to the death and then slap him with non-lethal damage right at the end. |
| penchant02-02-05, 01:28 AM | keep shooting them with sleep or str drain poison. That's what evil archers do. |
| Andu02-02-05, 07:50 AM | Have the arcane archer all memorize a Ray of Enfeeblement, and have them all lay the smack on the ranger/*. I'd be surprised if his Str stayed in the positive. And Str = 0 <=> one helpless ranger on the ground. |
| Draco Strang02-02-05, 08:55 AM | Have the arcane archer all memorize a Ray of Enfeeblement, and have them all lay the smack on the ranger/*. I'd be surprised if his Str stayed in the positive. And Str = 0 <=> one helpless ranger on the ground. Can you be hit by more than one of these? What I mean to say, is do several of them stack? |
| Stuntman02-02-05, 12:05 PM | Ray of Enfeeblement effects do not stack. It gives a Str penalty. Only the highest Str penalty is used. |
| 12th monkey02-02-05, 06:05 PM | i like the idea that iluvdnd47 has about letting the ranger think he is fighting to the death that would surely give him a reality check thanks |
| Tifus Artwin02-02-05, 06:31 PM | Ummmm, since when have peneltys not stacked? Care to give a refereence there Stuntman? I know bonuses of the same name dont stack, but ive never once read that peneltys dont stack, i mean, thats like saying i can only be hit by that long sword once man, its the same effect, and that cant effect me more then once, and only the highest damage effects me. I mean come on. Its a draining effect, or damaging, i dont remember which, but those most defiantly stack with them selfs, I know, ive have more then one player killed by draining attacks, con damage, and many more. |
| Elendur02-02-05, 07:04 PM | The problem is it doesn't do ability damage, it's a magical effect that causes a penalty. Magical effects of the same type don't stack. For instance, someone couldn't bestow two curses on you, and you could cast fly on yourself twice and fly twice as fast. Nocking 3 arrows and firing them at one target is called Manyshot. Your archers could do it if they were 11th level. As for capturing your PCs, don't hold back on them. Just pound them into the turf and say afterwards they used non-lethal damage right at the end. I doubt they'll going to argue with you. "But no, I want to be dead!" With the psionic character, you'll probably have to drug him or something. It all depends on what the point of the capture is. |
| redhase02-02-05, 07:12 PM | since the archers are evil, have the arrow heads made with a posion (here's what i mean. when metal forgers work and make arrow head, they cool them down in water right. OK have a posion like the drow Drakar istead of water, that way the arrow head is posion.) , and they have to make an save vs posion. Drakar drow posion dc saving throwe is 19, think Lsd comes from a mushroom. if they make their saving throw then on the next round they start getting illusions ans pass out. if they fail thier saving throw they pass out and have illusion in thier mind. one arrow one hit and you can be captured. is like taking a whole lot of lsd in the metal arrow head. or another posion that causes them to pass out, with an high contation of a drug. remember to have to drug used instead of the water or mixed highly with the water, so the metal will absorb it. |
| DracoDM0102-02-05, 08:01 PM | Ray of Ennfeblement does stack, the catch is that it can only take you donw to one (1) strengh . It cannot push you down to zero. (0) |
| Andu02-03-05, 01:39 AM | My bad, I forgot about the minimum strength on RoE. But I'm pretty sure it stacks. If someone knows where the SRD states that penalty don't stack, I'm interested, because that's not the way I played it. Poison would be nice, but they have pathetic save score (unless you go ahead with 2500g/dose poisons... if you have that much cash to burn, hire a 18th wizard to cast some PW:Stun and PW:Blind, or even a mass charm monster). |
| Elendur02-03-05, 10:40 AM | Sorry, they don't stack. Stacking Effects: Spells that provide bonuses or penalties on attack rolls, damage rolls, saving throws, and other attributes usually do not stack with themselves. More generally, two bonuses of the same type don’t stack even if they come from different spells (or from effects other than spells; see Bonus Types, above). |
| Andu02-03-05, 11:23 AM | mmh, ok it doesn't stack. Then you have to target the lowest save, probably dex. Or definitely smack down a PW:Blind. Since there's no cleric out there, it should be efficient. |
